Unit editing crash =(

I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before (I didn't see it if it has).

I am creating a new .bic file with tons of modifications, and I am finding there are certain times when it is crashing. I have deleted all of the units (yes, I am using the hacked editor.. I'm being very careful though :crazyeyes ) except for the units I'm using. The basics - settler, worker and scout - are there. the Warrior is there. Five units that I've added work fine (Llanowar Elf, Drudge Skeleton, Mons's Goblin Raider, Benalish Hero and Merfolk of the Pearl Trident).

Now I've added a new unit called the Ornithopter. My original intent was to make it an Air unit, but I noticed that Air units don't work the way I expected them to, so I made it into a variation of the Explorer - terrain as roads. I'm even using the Explorer movement icons until I get it to a point where I'm making my own animations.

Problem is-everytime I (or another faction) create one the game crashes. Yes I've copied the Explorer folder and renamed it to Ornithopter (I had that problem when I started doing this) :D

I also seem to be getting a problem when I enter a Goody Hut that I have no idea what is causing it. I have gotten all the events except for where the goody hut creates Warriors to attack you. Right now I have basic barbarians set to Warriors, Advanced Barbarians set to Mons's Goblin Raider and sea barbarian set to 'None' (for now). I even made sure that the Warriors and the Raiders were 'available' to the Barbarian 'civ' to no avail :(

If it matters (which I don't think it does) some of the other things I've done are;

-Deleted all the factions except 5, which I've changed.
-Added 5 new resources (using the uranium icon until I get around to changing it)
-Deleted all the techs on the lefthand most side.
-Created 6 new techs - White, Blue, Black, Green and Red Magic (enables Mana Resource of the appropriate type) as well as Basic Artifice, which enables the Iron Resource.
-Created a total of 6 units, one for each colour of magic as well as the Ornithopter which is giving me problems. None of these units currently have a prerequisite tech but DO have a resource need (which effectivly sets them a prerequisite to the type of mana they use.. I should fix that though)

Anything else I may be missing?
 
On your start menu go to Find -> Files or Folders. Point it to just your civilization directory, and have it search all files which contain the name of the unit you want to change the name of.

The thing is that choosing Rename doesn't rename everything it actually needs to.

For instance with Knight you need to at least change something in PediaIcons.txt, Script.txt, Knight.INI (both inside that file and the name of the file itself), KnightAttack.amb, and KnightRun.amb...at LEAST.

Very screwy that you have to do so much just to add/rename a single unit, eh?


But that should help you with at least part of your problem.


What can I say, the editor sucks :(
 
Oh, I got my Ornithopter Working (still havn't worked out the barbarian problem). The problem with my Ornithopter was that I needed to set it to "Footman" (or something like that) I guess all ground units have to be either foot, wheeled or mounted or the computer has no idea what to do with them.

As for the barbarian thing, I just realised it hasn't worked since I changed the colour to Yellow. My 5 primary civs are White, Blue, Green, Black and Red (This mod is based on a different game which you've probably figured out by the names of the units =) ) So.. I had to change the colour of the barbarians. I set them to grey, which worked fine but it was too easy to confuse them with the black phyraxians. So I changed them to gold, and I've never seen a barbarian after I did that.

I may have to set barbarians back to white and use a light pink/lavender for the Icatians.
 
As soon as you get done with this "Magic: The Gathering" mod, I would like to see it :)
