Dear Santa,

Can I please have an Anglo-Danish Huscarl unit like the guy below.

The long-handled axe is a must, as is the chainmail, shield and helmet.

I think he'd make a welcome addition to the game (well, at least he will have a place in my Dark Age Battle of Britain scenario
(i.e. North Atlantic Archipelago scenario).

this guy would be neat :)

In time for Christmas? ;)

If you can find time (or a couple of helper elves) that would be great. I don't mind waiting.

How good a standard are the Call To Power units?

There's one in Call To Power, if I find time to make the conversion

I would love this unit. I'd put it in my Scandinavia Conquest (I'm making it, but don't forget about iBox's).

I tought it was spelled "Hausecarl" (pronounced "House Carl")

According to Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion, there are 2 seperate units

EDIT: Maybe not, I guess they changed unit names (I'm pretty sure they had Saxon Housecarls and Viking Huskarls, or something like that, but it doesn't appear to be that way).

Huskarl is the Gothic name for them.
Well, at least it's the Swedish name. :) And I suppose it's called the same in Norwegian and Danish.
Hus means house, and karl means man. As he's a man guarding the kings house, the name isn't so strange. ;)

the Aok untis in my opinion dont look well with civ 3 units
Yup and Steph says that the Call to Power ones are not very good either. Maybe one of the talented unit creators around here will make a go of one from scratch... I hope :)

That chap could also serve as Varangian Guard for the Byzantines :yeah:

By the way, it is also called huskarl in Danish.

Yes it has multiple uses for different civs. Thanks for strengthening the case for this unit to be made, Cimbri. :)

I think a significant number of anglo-saxon huscarls joined the Varangian guard after their defeat by the Normans in 1066.

I agree, i badlly need one of these guys to serve as a Vandal, as well as several other tribes UU

With this guy we'd have:

Swordsman: Viking Swordsman, Utahjazz7
Longbowman: Berserker, Firaxis
Med. Infantry: Huscarl, ...

Huskarl doesn't look much Gothic to me. It looks perfectly North Germanic, and indeed, as already mentioned, is the Swedish form of the word. 'Hausecarl' could be German, altho the 'c' would then be unexpected. My German dictionary doesn't list it, but while it's generally very good, it can be a bit lacking when it comes to archaic or historical terms.

The English is 'housecarl'.

I mistyped, I was thininking about the Goth when what I meant was the vandals, but the same goes for them anyway- the Huscarl is a very nice gerneric name for a very generic type of trooper...

and, IMO, "Huscarl" is the best sounding form of the word
