Unit Request: Aztek/Mesoamerican Swordsman

I second this stuff! Would be nice to have some fictional units for the mesoamerican and amerindian civs, especially medieval era.

It needs one of thoes things coming off his back, like in the minature in Post number seven

That's an excellent sketch, Shiro! (although I imagined the swordsman would look a bit 'bulkier', but that's just fluff)
Hopefully your sketch may catch the eye of a unit creator...

Me to...that would probably be the ideal footman for Mesoamerican armys during an Iron Age, seeing as he is light and not heavily armored. Also, the hot climate of the region would enforce lighter armor, since Iron armor can get very hot. Plus Plate Armor, and other heavy armors is a separate invention entirely from Sword-smithing, and would require years to invent. It is more likely the Azteks or other Mesoamerican peoples(And its likely the Aztek's rule over Mesoamerica would have been challenged by other groups in the region if Cortez had never arrived), would have developed some other form of armor, like Japan did.

Heres some of the more advanced weapons made by the aztec's from a material called obsidian which is a volcanic type of glass sometimes mixed with iron and magnesium. The bottom weapon was used in the same way as a sword and is severly sharp.

Speaking of armour, it would be nice to see some wooden-armoured Iroquois/northern native american units as a medieval flavour.
Speaking of weapons - hey, cool weapons!

well I dont draw bulky guys its Japanese stlye to make people skiny ^ ^;;
he doesnt have a pole coming out of his back so he can move better and its just a vest so he can move his arms more. but I will also draw one with armour for a more medivil look.

Well, theres also the Eagle, in the Aztec military, the warriors were divided in ranks according to animal status. The Eagle Warrior was one of the highest ranks, second only to the Jaguar Warrior. Also, since this is also a Mesoamerican flavor, rather than just Aztec, something based off of the Plumed Serphent, Quezatylcoatl, would be cool as well.

Quezatlcoatyl, the Plumed Serphent God, I suppose you could consider him the Mesoamerican equaleviant to a Dragon. Although he was the sworn enemy, according to legend, of the Aztecs(This stems from the Toltecs, where soldiers loyal to the Gods Tlaloc and I forgot the other god's name, but it begins with H, overthrew the Priest-King Ce Acatl Topiltzin, and the peaceful civilization, and started the first of the extremely violent and militaristic, human-sacrificing nations in Mesoamerica(Although it was nowhere near the level of horror that the Aztecs had...)

Another interesting thing is that there were Insect Gods in the Mesoamerican's vast Pantheon, such as a Bee god. This could be the basis for a new Mesoamerican warrior as well, since both the Eagle and Jaguar were also aspects of some of the Mesoamerican gods.

I read once of a really old Mesoamerican god, who was sort of like the equaleviant to the Greek Titans, or Geb and Nut in Egyptian Mythology. Don't know if that god is really greater according to Mesoamerican Mythology, but it is possible.

wow thanks i can draw some better soldiers now
Red- do you think the Meso American Knight should be on a horse or something or on the ground? and what should be the flavor of him?
is there anything else that kinboat or AOE hasnt made yet for this culture group?

Well, I think it would be really neat (although perhaps unlikely) if the aztec night were riding not on a horse, but a 'domesticated jaguar' - serious.

However, popular demand may be for the horse, and if so, by all means the horse would be a fine choice - just as long as we get that knight!

There's a whole bunch of units that have not been made for this culture group, both historical and fictional/flavour purpose. I've been thinking of coming up of a list of what I'd like to see/ what is probably needed. Any suggestions anyone? What do we need?

I look forward to more of your drawings, Shiro, they're really good!
