Unit Request: Aztek/Mesoamerican Swordsman

Thats pretty much the same attitude that R8XFT has. I perfectly understand your fear of the board members. Generally Utah, your the type of person that generally does best when left to your own devices. I still believe your Inti Warrior is one of the best units ever created for Civ3.

Thanks, SoG. I'm glad you like the Inti Warrior. I think it's okay, but it isn't one of my favorites.

another cool unit from meso america

Yeah, does anyone have a cool aztec name for the swordsman? :) I mean my aztec musketman ended up being Tlecuahuitl, or something, and the name generated more talk than the unit itself.

Other than that guy whose name begins with N and is utterly unpronoicable by practicers of the English language, I don't know who qualifies as the resident Mesoamerican fanatic...lol
No, I meant resident HERE, i.e. physical space. You know, the real world? He's one of my apartment mates. :p

However, no luck in getting any ideas from him so far. He's enthused enough about the unit, but I haven't got any potential names out of him yet.

Oh, and that N guy's name isn't unpronounceably -- it's perfectly pronounceable if you understand how to sound out common Nahuatl spelling, which is based on Medieval Spanish, so the letters signify different sounds than we're used to. For example, 'X' sounds like an English 'Sh' sound -- kind of like pinyin (romanization for Mandarin), but don't even get me started on pinyin; it makes even less sense than Nahuatl spelling, which is fairly regular. However, I have completely forgotten what that guy's name IS.

Hmm...

A few suggestions for the interim:
"Hueitecpayaotli" -- something like "Great Knife Warrior"
"Tlacahueitecpatl" -- something like "Great Knife Man"
Or if you want something more totemic:
"Cuauhtecpatl" -- "Eagle Knife"
"Tlacacuauhtecpatl" -- "Eagle Knife Man" (?)
"Quetzaltecpatl" -- "Feather Man"

Enjoy :D

Tonight I'm going to model the Aztec Swordsman's weapon. Yes, I am making the Aztec Swordsman. Everything else else for the model is complete; I just need to make the weapon. What weapon would be best?

1. Wooden "paddle" with obsidian edge.

2. Iron "paddle" with obsidian edge.

3. Iron "paddle" with iron spikes to mimic the obsidian look.

4. Iron sword with wavy edge, as in the last concept drawing. (page 7)

If no one votes, I'll go with option number 2.

I would go with #2 - it seems to stay close with the idea of it being an "iron age" unit, but without losing its "historical" connection.

I would go with 4. In fact that is what I was aiming at when I drew the Knight's sword. It seems more realistic that once they developed iron weapons they would make the whole thing out of it. If for nothing else, ease and practicality.
