Unit Request for "A Game of Intelligence" mod

Hi there

:)

Been lurking for a while, leeching your brilliant work to enhance my own Civ3 gaming experience.

I'm working no a small-ish mod, which seeks to redress the "intelligence" balance between the AI and the player. You know how the AI always knows where your most vulnerable cities are? And yet, you put 2 feet on his land and it's war?

Well, the introduction of a number of new units (and perhaps Technologies and small wonders) seek to redress that. In particular, I'm adding both Air and Ground Stealth and Recon units.

And anyway, I'm wondering whether some of you might have kicking around units suitable for the following. As I'm not a graphic artist of any kind, I'd really love it if people could point me in the direction of graphics (with PCX as well, hopefully) for the following:


Starting with the humble:

* 1800's era Spy Balloon (cheap, recon air unit @ "Theory of Gravity")
* 1920's era Spy Plane
* 1970's Cold War High Altitude Spy plane (SR-71 or similar)
* Satellites (I'm going to use a "Spy Satellite" as an infinite range recon unit in end-game)
* UAV Camera planes
* "Spy" style land units for each era

Now, while I've found a few units to match these I thought I'd just pop up from lurking and ask if anyone had any they could recommend.

Damn, and there was I hoping to be the first to say "Wrong Forum", and he does it himself! Evidently a sensible poster, so double welcome.

I have a feeling that one or two of these things may already exist - I'm pretty sure there's a balloon lurking somewhere in the vaults, for example, and I think I've seen a spy plane or similar. Others will know better than I, though.

Well, The baloon is already done and can be found in one of the unit libraries as has the spy sattlite. As for land based spy type units, Kinboat came out with a James Bond and Bond Girl units a while back, and NeOmega has an assasin type unit available.

Oh, and welcome to the forums, I see you've met Zulu already. He's not such a bad guy, once you get to know him ;)
 
Wyrmshadow made a U-2 and a SR-71. They are hiding over at CDG. You can find them at www.cdgroup.org however you need to register to view and download them.
 
Do you think, that AI would use your unit?

Depends on how it is implemented, but I suspect not. I'm not that bothered if the AI doesn't use my spies. After all, they don't use Spy Planes or Recon-Only units, there isn't even an AI flag for it.

That part of my mod is to redress a "perceived" imbalance of intelligence, anyway, so the AI already has enough intelligence.

I am drawn to the idea of giving the spy the air mission "recon" with a tiny range... (say 2, maybe 3). That would let him "snoop" into enemy territory while still remaining in my territory. I am also using a Terrain mod (Unpassable mountains, no wheels in forests unless road) that I find enhances the mechanics of combat by creating natural bottlenecks. That often stops the AI from doing some of it's more cheesy tactics.

I'll test and report back.

Thanks for the links, I have just strip-mined the CDG forums, so thankyou very much for pointing them out. I might post my mod change notes to get some feedback on the changes I am making.
