I apologise for having to make another thread for this but my first post in the other one didn't allow adding further pictures (I had long passed the limit of 20 images, unfortunately). For anyone unaware of the other thread, I am making unit requests for Japanese Sengoku-jidai units. If you're a unit-maker, have time, and simply want to help me out (which will be cited in the credits of my scnearios and mods, since I like to give credit where credit is due), feel free to sift through the various images that I've posted up as reference and to spark ideas.

I would ask that the other thread do NOT be closed, because I will hereby be moving all unit requests to this thread and turning the other one into a progress thread on unit ideas and structuring of the units in the tech-tree.

Here's a list of the clans' unique units. Red specifies clans that still need the unit to be made):

***Unique Units***

Clan UU ideas that need to be created:

Hojo Clan – Fuma-ninja
Spoiler :
^ The ninja cliché would be perfect for these guys. Just a black clad ninja with a straight-edge ninjato sword seems fitting for this.

Imagawa Clan - Iga-ninja
Spoiler :
^ For some reason, these guys were refered to as the "good" ninja. Where this name derives from is beyond me, but they seem to be described in a much more righteous manner than their rival ninja clan, the Fuma. Here's a possible look for these ninja.

Takeda Clan – Ju-kiheitai (Spear-wielding cavalry)
Spoiler :
^ These are the most fearsome samurai cavalry in Japanese history, so their image should be according as well. I think these pictures are really good for a possible model. The first is a direct picture for reference and the third details the overcoat that many samurai wore (I would really love to see the overcoat used for the cavalry samurai). There are lots of other pictures of this unit for further reference, though anyone attempting to undertake this should understand what I'm going for. The last four are of course not detailing a samurai on horseback, but it does give a very good look at the way the body of the samurai should look (of course on a horse though).

Uesugi Clan – Odachi Samurai (Odachi-wielding anti-cavalry Samurai)
Spoiler :
^ The odachi was/is a an irregularly long Japanese sword often used to counteract cavalry charges of the opponent. Though these were obviously not as widespread as katanas were, they were still often used during and before the Muromachi period. Due to the length of the blade and handle, wearing the sword on the side of the hip was impractical. Typically, they were either worn on the back, which posed the problem of unsheathing it in battle, or the scabbard simply held in the hand. I would prefer this last stance for this unit if possible. It would be best to have him hold the scabbard with his left hand at all times, and unsheath with the right. Also, the blade of an odachi was generally over three feet long, so this should be noticeable in comparison to the samurai's body. The first picture shows a samurai holding an odachi (though the sword is a bit small in that picture). The second shows an older representation of an odachi-wiedling samurai (this is what the size should resemble).

Tokugawa Clan - Mikawa Bushi (A stereotypical katana-wielding samurai)
Spoiler :
^ This is what Tokugawa's Samurai generally looked like. Something to this effect would be perfect. Note that the red color of the armor should probably be made into civ-coloring so that he can be used in other things as well. In my scenario, the Tokugawa clan is red anyways so the armor will take on this color nonetheless.

Date Clan – Date Samurai
Spoiler :
^ A naginata-wielding samurai with similar to exactly the same armor would be really sweet. Civ coloring could be added to the red parts of the armor but I would definitely like to see the black and gold elements findable in the unit (sorry, not tyring to be bossy if it came across as such but I REALLY LIKE this model a lot!).

Mori Clan - Kyudoka: Elite Archer
Spoiler :
^ If someone could make a Japanese samurai archer that looks like this, it would be really sweet. I would suggest making the green areas on the clothing civ-specific (see first archer pic below). I also added some other color schemes of the same archer model as well as more perspectives to help with other directions.

Asai Clan – Tenno Guard
Spoiler :
^ Something like this spearman would be fitting. Only suggestion I have would be to change the plain yellow circle on the hat and armor into the Japanese imperial seal (second picture).

Akita Clan – Keikihei (Light cavalry unit)
Spoiler :
^ I was thinking a light cavalry would be good for the Akita clan, Something like a mounted-archer seems appropriate for this case. Some examples below.

Miyoshi Clan - Shusei So-jutsuka (Strong defensive warrior)
Spoiler :
^ Here's a possible way to make the Miyoshi UU look. The weapon used by this unit can be changed if desired. I have no preference for this one.

Ashina Clan - Kenkyaku (Unit with blitz attack but lowered defense value)
Spoiler :
^ This guy on a standard light horse would be nice. That way the blitz ability won't seem awkward since he is at least on horseback.

Asakura Clan - Yatoihei (Strong defensive mercenary unit)
Spoiler :
^ Just a standard defensive, spear-wielding ashigaru.

**continued in post 3**

Amago Clan - Hyakusho Musurao (First professional peasant warrior available; would be nice for this to have worker animations so that it can be a worker with offensive capabilities)
Spoiler :
^ Here are two pictures showing the way a "light" peasant warrior could look. This can be armed with either a spear or arquebuse; all depends on the unit-maker's preference.

Yeah, that's the one I'm currently searching good images for. I haven't quite found one that seems ideal yet, but I did find a load of other pics in the process (as you can no doubt tell). ;)

I'll get some images of the Hyakusho Musurao up in a couple minutes. Be on the look for the thread in the meantime!

Hurray! I can't wait!

Hey, seeing as you've done so much research, what is it with the Otomo units? Why do they look... different? Were the Otomo a different culture or something?

I believe Civ kind of made a blunder with the Otomo units, since they are actually better placed farther back in Japanese history. But no room to be "that" picky when I have such limited resources. By the way...you're a good unit-maker! *hint, hint* ;)

Storm, I placed up images of the way a peasant warrior could look. This is personally the look I like best for that unit.

Aha, so the Otomo units available would fit for what time then? :) Any images or literature on this?

Well, I found one source that stated that Otomo no Makuta is by no means a unit, but much rather a specific person. He was apparently a decendant of the Otomo clan (figures, considering the name) and was memorable for trying to keep a certain type of armor known as Oama armor in fashion. The guy died in 683, meaning this unit would not only pre-date the Sengoku-jidai by a thousand years, but also that Firaxis was pretty lazy when making the Sengoku-jidai mod (and the units therein). It honestly wouldn't have been that hard to make some more fitting units, since they did make units afterall. I guess they couldn't be arsed to spend their time with accuracy and just wanted to churn the Conquests expansion out.

Here's my source (scroll down to page 55 and look for a title somewhere reading "Otomo no Makuta"):

I need that peasant with a spear, or even some more "peasantish" weapon if you can think of one, so I`ll try to acquire one for us, `kay?

That sounds excellent! As to the weapon, a spear-like weapon or maybe a sickle would be good. I prefer the spear, but it's up to you if you can get someone to do it.

I might try some of these..

You don't know how greatful I would be if you could take up some (or rather, any) of these requests! Especially with your skill at unit creation, the result would no doubt be nothing but spectacular. Which ones were you considering on doing?

Yeah, well, I hope you announce it, so we don`t have another Chakra incident - both units are so good its hard to choose, and not all mods are able to include 2 versions like in A.D.

I made a note under this unit stating that it is being worked on at the moment. Have you already found a potential unit-maker?
