Unit Request: Ghost Ship

We'll see.
the mist could be connected to the water, if you see what I mean. Like a Bell Curve in 3D...

Thanks for working on it, Aaglo!

I don't know what you are talking about mrtn ( :p I am not a computer graphics expert like you guys), but anything to make it look good, would be great! :)

Yes, take a standard (maybe flatten it a bit) 2D Gauss curve and make a 3d object of it (looking very much like a church bell). This way the mist would not join the water in a sharp angle, but rather a smooth one.

Hi,

I did some modelling, and tried to make that mist-thingy. It didn't work out - not at all (it looked horrible).

But in the process I stumbled on this - it could be a fidget animation - some sort of 'ghost party' in the ship... or whaddayathink?

Here's the default and fidget animation (but I'm not sure if that's the model you would like):

Ship looks good, but I don't really like the fidget. Would probably like it better if there was more random local movement of the mist, and less of the global rotating movement.

Perhaps make the hull a bit more greyish?

This looks even better than I anticipated. The model is perfect, I love those sails. The fidget looks fun, I say keep it. :)

Are the tops of the masts a bit bright though? Also, what kind of attack you have in plans? Arrows or guns? Personally, both are fine, but maybe I'd prefer guns. Of course, having the choice of both is always nice. :)

Edit: I don't vote for more grey hull. It's good to keep some contrast between hull and sails.

Edit2: And the good thing about fidget anims is that if you don't like them, you can remove them without affecting the other parts of the unit.

I think I'll agree with TLC about the fidget - I should make it a bit more 'random'... and I have a hunch 'bout how to do it...

I was thinking about cannon attack only, but the arrows could come useful in scenarios, where there are no gunpowder available...

Yes please.
But actually I think that both arrows and cannons feel wrong for the attack. It should be a army of skeletons that board the other ship, but I have no idea how to do that.
Would it be possible to do some magical-fidget-like attack?

Actually the current fidget, with some improvements (ie. going more off the ship towards the enemy) could be a perfect ghost attack.

Hmm... some magical attack?
Why not... *thinking*

If this new fidget (or something similar) was spawned from the ship, and it would travel over the sea to the defending ship... like a spirit attack?

Anyway, here's a new kind of fidget (which looks better imho) from another angle. I also added some fragmens of the sails swaying in the wind... :)

New fidget is better. :) And a spirit attack would be very cool. I did think of it, but thought it might be too much work for you. I guess I'm a little too careful about suggesting stuff that would require extra work.

Edit: and the fragments of sails swaying in the wind look great.

To quote mrtn:  The fragments swaying in the wind there is a nice touch! I do like the current fidget, but if the same type of anim would be used for the attack, which I think is a good idea, an alternative fidget, imho, could be some torches on deck flickering alight and going out. Would look scary methinks, but just an alt'native idea. :)

It could... Would be cool if the spirits "boarded" or enveloped the enemy ship, though, and not just stayed on the ghost ship. Of course, it wouldn't make that big of a difference, and it might not look that good, mixing with the anim of the opponent's ship. Just a thought, though, 'cause ... you're the boss... :p
