Unit Request: Ghost Ship

Looks great! These fidgets just keep getting better. Got me thinking that an eerie, static light might be interesting for default, but I'm not sure where it could be placed...

Looks great, Aaglo! Better than I imagined it! :D

And that static light might be placed atop the middle mast, so that all of the deck would be filled with this eerie, sullen light, Drift? Alternatively it could be placed at the front, so that it wouldn't light up the sails that much? A matter of preference, really... :)

Last figet is quite neat. I think it would be further improved by slowing it down a bit - ominous slowness can be very ghastly if done right. Particularly the rapid return to the front of the ship looks a bit worried, and ghosts aren't given to worrying, are they?

Now, if we got to see some attack anims, we'd start drooling for serious! :D

What about death, BTW? Simply turning into mist and fading away, p'rhaps?

I like this fidget, and the one with the white smoke in front of it. I have a great idea for the pedia pics, give me one second, and I'll show you what I mean.

Okay, something to the effect of this (I could have made this better if I had a version with no shadow, and white instead of pink, or had more time):

@Drift,
While the static light in the default (and run and fidget and attack and death) would look nice, I'm against doing it. Because this is a dead ship - and since when did ghosts need light :lol: . No, seriously, if I add the light to all other animations, the surprise of the fidget is 'lost' (if that's okay for you, that is :) )

@The Last Conformist,
Sure, I can slow the move down - from 10 frames (currently) to 20 frames - but it will make the fidget a very large animation (in file size). If that's not a problem, then it can be done ;) . And don't drool yet for the attack - I haven't yet got a clue how to do that :lol: . The death will propably be the sinking animation with the exception that the ripples of the sails will fade into thin air, plus some ghosty action perhaps :) (I don't know how to do that either, but I'm sure I'll figure out something...)

Of course it's ok. :)

Mist, sure, but honestly I prefer "usual" pedia.

Okay :), just trying to come up with ideas. Of course, if the pedia was it poiting at you (like it does with cavalry for example), and coming out of the mist... well, that's okay anyway.

Personally, I'm not much concerned with big anims - I bought an extra 250 GB HD yesterday! :D

I suppose boarding actions are close to impossible to render?

Tiny figures firing muskets from the deck and masts, perhaps?

Ideas/thoughts:
- Attack animation option 1: Spirits flying from the ship towards the enemy ship. The boarding action won't be done.
- Attack animation option 2: Cannons firing from the boardside, so no tiny figures :p
- Improved 20-frame fidget (you couldn't get more ridiculous than that :D )

[edit] I'll do both attacks, so the unit will be useful for many kinds of scenarios.

Ship look class :thumbsup:
And i think you should do both attacks: spirits for attack A, and Cannon for attack B?

Hope i'm right with that, as I know little about customising.

Übercool!

I love this unit already.

Damn, this could look nice in the game.

The attack of the damned... I'll just be boring and say:
Weirdest. Attack. Ever.

Very good! Amazing. It goes well with the fidget (not the one with the lights, the one like this). Do you mind also making a cannon fire too? This may even be your best unit yet Aaglo...
