I'm not really sure how much the "unit request thread" is actually read nowadays, so I thought a new thread would be better.
Nizam-i Cedid was basically the name given to the new Ottoman army established during Selim III era, which caused a great deal of turmoil and instability for some time, leading to rebellions among the already corrupt Janissaries.
Basicly, the Janissaries have started to become far too powerful and out of control, often seeking for whatever is best for them, but not the empire. They were highly corrupt towards the end of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century, and replacing them with a reformed army was a must.
Selim III tried this, and was unsuccessful. His successor, Mahmud II (also called the first enlightened Ottoman Sultan), got away with the Janissaries, and formed the Nizam-i Cedid.
This is a basic picture I could find online, and I'm looking for more.
It's basicly ment to be a rifleman replacement for the Ottomans, but just giving them a red fez wouldn't really catch the realistic aspects of this unit.
The picture is the one of an officer, but in reality, they are not much different.
