Unit Request: Oilrig

I don't know if this is even possible, but what about having oil in sea and ocean, and then move an oilrig to that spot...

Does anyone know if this is possible? Would like to sea oil in the sea aswell, quite a few countries has oilrigs.

Perhaps this is a question/request for Firaxis?
 
To use oil in the sea as a strategic resource, you have to build a road on the sea. People have experimented with this, and, as far as I have gathered, this isn't something the AI can handle. I'm afraid you just have to wait for civ 4. :(
 
well, i thing of something similar to your idea.

What about an oil rig and/or a refinery improvement? it will require oil in city radius and make you win more commerce.
 
The problem is you can't give the AI the terraform strategy on a naval unit, and without that strategy, it won't build a road.

Yes. Unfortunately this is about all you can do right now with sea resources. I had wanted to have pearls as a luxury resource, but conceded to just use it as a bonus resource.

Dang! I wish resources were like they were in Call to Power. This is old hat: but there sure are a lot of great concepts that could have been used from CtP. *sigh* Oh well.

I agree.
I use offshore oil as an bonus resource and it works good.
You only have to set a prerequisite that you think is relevant.
 
This is a bit of a long shot but...

1) Oil in the sea
2) Refinery technology unlocks ability to build sea-settler
3) Sea-settler creates rig (city) where you build a harbour
4) Small cities in modern-era look like that might be oil rigs
5) Sea-settler looks like some kind of engineering boat

How's that? :)

I see a flaw where someone could find a couple of wales and build a metropolis in the middle of the ocean, call it Atlantis and build merfolk :lol:

But, perhaps that's just a small island that was too small for the map? :rolleyes:

That's a barge, used for moving oil rigs. Proposed sea-settler.
 
I wonder if colonies would work in the water? Even so, the AI wouldn't be able to use such a thing. If only Firaxis would release a new patch with a whole bunch more AI strategy flags...
