Hi, I'm in my third game of Civ III (taken a month so far!! playing inbetween work), it's on hrmm.. the old King level I think, or the third level from the top.

I have a couple of questions:

I am playing Americans (I've found them hard too! I preferred playing babylonians), on king or whatever the equivilent is for Civ III. on a huge map, continents.

Firstly, how much do units cost? it says I pay nearly 500 per turn for unit upkeep, I don't think I have anywhere near that number of units (maybe 150?). So, do battleships cost more for instance than a mech inf, or a warrior?

And does unit cost upkeep change with the level you are playing? I have found it annoying playing Americans, I only got my golden age like in 2010.. a little too late too.

Also, can stealth fighters shoot down enemy intercepts? and when you get an intercept, is this been a fighter of the enemies which has been set to "air superiority".. if so, then how do SAM missile bases work, I've never seen a message of a bomber (or stealth bomber, fighter) shot down through SAM.

Just digesting the game! this is my third, and the first game I've topped the tech tree into future tech before retirement, I'm new to all of the later technology fighting.

Would love some help, thanks!

In the unmodded game, all units cost 1 gold per turn. This cost does not change with difficulty level.

Unless you play C3C and are in Feudalism: 3gpt over free support or Republic: 2gpt over free support

Steath fighters can not perform air superiority missions. Keep building F-15s or jet fighters for that.
