Hello everyone, and welcome to a new poll, this time focused on the Native Americans civs of continental Latin America, which means from Mexico to Ushuaia !
There a lot of civs, but I think who we'll be the top 2 in this poll, the top 3,4 and 5 being the surprise. Remember that this poll has no modern nations, nor Caribbean civs. Enjoy, vote and comment your choices my friends, as the next poll will come next week !
Ciao, and have fun !

Continental Latin American leader Ideas
Kairouane of the Caribs (Actually belong in American and Pacific Islands)
Tacaynamo of the Chimu
Sepe Tiaraju of the Guarani
Pachacuti of the Inca
Lady Six Sky of the Maya
Eight Deer of the Mixtec
Nemequene of the Muisca
Po Ngbe of the Olmec
Tariacuri of the Tarascan
Xochitl of the Toltec
Cunhambebe of the Tupi
Cosijoeza of the Zapotec

This poll at once very easy and very difficult.

I find it hard to think of any reasonable justification for not including the Maya or the Inca in a Civilization game, so those go almost without say.

The last choice is the difficult one. The Toltecs or the Zapotecs would be very worthy features in their own right, and they sadly inevitably get overlooked in favour of the Aztecs and Mayas. But that ends up crowding a lot in to Mexico. Likewise the Muisca would be a great addition, but represents another Andean civ on top of the Inca. Then you have the Nazca and the Olmecs as important early civilisations about whom sadly not enough remains to make a viable civ.

I'd like to inject a little more geographical range into my picks. Are we including the Caribbean in this list? On the one hand, you can't call them "Continental". On the other, you have included the Caribs! If we are allowing Caribbean natives, then I would probably vote for the Taíno as an island-based civ. Another interesting choice, I think would the be the Tupi, who could take advantage of settling jungles and would spread the native South Americans out nicely.

Actually, it's more the Kanlina people I was refering as "Caribs" ;)

I voted for the Inca, Maya, and Muisca.

Honorary mentions: Cambeba, Chimu, Guarani, Mixtecs, Tupi

It's a shame a lot about Amazonian civilization/and their leaders is unknown or lost. There's archaeological evidence for that region being densely populated (not merely the "Green Hell" popularized by Betty Meggers) and having social complexity.

But the Cambeba don’t have a leader

Inca, Maya, Muisca though it would be hard to do the latter unfortunately.

Maya and Inca are obvious choices. My third choice I was in doubt between Muisca or Tupi, but I decided for Tupi because would be interesting to see its interation with jungles, it can get an improvement on jungles tiles.

Inca and Maya were easily my top choices, however I really am interested in Muisca culture, and I found them to be a worthy addition as a civ. They had a confederation, and a rich, unique culture.

...Looking at the poll results thus far, I have to say that's the most unanimous I've ever seen one of these polls. Looks like the consensus is much the same here.

That's interesting, I didn't realise there were two (possibly unrelated) groups with the same name(s)! I see from your signature now that the islands will get their shot next week, so my vote for the Tupi stands. :)

It's not all that surprising. Imagine if there was a poll for Europe, and Greece and Rome weren't in the game yet :p

That's fair enough. I think we will get those two civs (Maya and Inca) anyway, but it's probably good that they are well supported too. That leaves the Muisca as the outstanding alternative choice. Really I would like to see more representation of Native American civs in this game, so it's nice to have another leading contender on the list, especially for the South American continent. If we are getting a bunch more civs from the Americas, then I think there is a fair chance that the Muisca could make it...the thing is that there may be limited spots left for new civs now though.

I went with Tupi for my third choice. As others have said, they have the option of doing something interesting with rainforests. The major issue with them is that they didn't really have a shared identity, it neither did a lot of civs in the game/previous games.

I voted Maya, Inca and Muisca (who I would prefer over the Inca, actually).

I would be interested in redoing a similar poll without the Maya and Inca. It‘s not like all other options are garbage (only few are), it‘s just that these two stand out too much.

The Pre-Incan Andean and Andean coast cultures simply have no leaders, city names, or even anything other than artifacts. We know they existed but other than what we can glean from artifacts and remains we simply don't know.

Maya and Inca (obviously), with the Mixtec for number three (I'd love to see the Aztec sit out one game in favor of the Mixtec). Honorable mention for the Muisca and Tupi.

The Maya should honestly be a base game staple, being the preeminent civilization of Mesoamerica and quite possibly the foundational one.

The Inca were short lived but, like the Aztec, achieved an impressive amount in their short time and showed promise of flowering into a brilliant golden age had the Spanish not arrived. Given time they might have even developed literacy: quipu were already developing from a mnemonic device into a form of proto-writing.

As for the Mixtec, they were the chief rivals of the Aztec, were wealthy statecrafters in their own right, and have an epic leader in Eight Deer Jaguar Claw (who gets bonus points for coolest name ever).

For now, I've picked two obvious choices - Inca Empire and Maya. I'm still deciding who should be the third.

Eight Deer Jaguar Claw is confident you'll make the right decision. :mischief:

This is definitely one of the more unanimous polls. I was originally going to vote for more new choices like I did last week, but I'm still pretty unfamiliar with most of the leaders of the other civs so I decided to also vote for the staples in this one.

The Inca and Maya, I'm fairly certain that I'll be forgiven for not elaborating on why I'd want these 2 civ giants in!

The Muisca are an easy choice right behind the Inca and Maya. Their culture looks quite interesting and Nemequene looks like a fun leader with an easily discernible agenda.

Honorable Mentions:

The Mixtec seem like the next best choice for Central America. Eight Deer Jaguar Claw is right up there with Iron Jacket in the cool names group!

I wouldn't mind seeing the Tupi fight with Brazil over rainforest tiles.

The Tarascans are pretty cool as the rivals of the Aztecs, maybe they'll get in one day.

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention the Marajoara culture. They're pretty unique and have a great TSL to use but unfortunately, as far as I know, none of their leaders are known.
