Hello everyone, and welcome again to a new poll to decide which civs you want to see in the near future for Civilization VI. And today, we focus on the South of Sahara to Cape Town, and eastern Africa. Some kingdoms may seem obscur to you, so do not hesitate to check on them to deepen your knowledge on each of them !
That being said, enjoy, have fun and see you next week.

Southern/Eastern African leader ideas
Kaleb of Aksum
Agostinho Neto of Angola
Muteesa I of Buganda
Menelik II of Ethiopia
Mwanasolundwi of the Lozi
Ilunga Sungu of The Luba
Mwaant Yaav of The Lunda
Andrianampoinimerina of Madagascar
Rwabugiri of Rwanda
Mohammed Hassan of Somalia
Barghash of Somalia
Khama III of Tswana (Botswana)
Nyatsimba Mutota of Zimbabwe

Ethiopia
Mutapa
Swahili
honorable mention to Madagascar
I prefer the wider Ethiopia to the more limited Aksum. Lalibela would be an interesting leader.

I think Madagascar is probably the civ I want most in the series, out of anywhere in the world... so obviously it got my vote. It may be possible that we finally see it as a full civ and not just a city-state; it's unique in culture and origin, it's in an unrepresented area, it has a very long history, lots of leader options, etc. but I guess we will have to wait and see for that. I also voted for Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Technically I voted for both Askum and Ethiopia but only because I would actually want an Askum leader for Ethiopia.
Then I voted for the Swahili.

The one person who didn't vote for Ethiopia should be ashamed of themselves. :nono:

I voted for Ethiopia (ideally led by Zara Ya'qob) and Madagascar.

Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Swahili. I had no idea Madagascar is so popular.

I voted Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Swahili. I was pretty clearly not alone in this choices, but I'll elaborate on possible concepts for each anyway:

Ethiopia is not a must for me, but I would not object to its returning. However, with the geographical balance of Africa, I could see Ethiopia's not being included due to Nubia's placement and ancient empire-y vibe. However, if Ethiopia keeps to itself closer to the coast and focuses on the modern country and empire as opposed to Aksum, I think it could work. Zara Ya'qob (also known as Kwestantinos) or Haile Selassie would probably be ideal

Madagascar seems unlikely, but could very well be included to great reception by me. If it were to be included, I'd prefer to call it Madagascar over Imerina and definitely over the Merina, as ideally it would be a more pan-Madagascar civilization, similar to the Madagascar of today- even if the leader and uniques are based primarily off the kingdom of Madagascar. Maybe Queen Ranavalona I with a strong cultural focus could work quite well, but I don't know if this would be overly controversial.

For the Swahili, I can't really tell all too much. I don't know practically anything about them, but they seemed to have a lot of sway in the religious and economic world. Zanzibar was a pretty important region in general, both for its own nations and those who did their business there. Some kind of trade bonus may be interesting.

Thinking about it, I'd be happy to see ANY of these civs on the poll in Civ 6. I still have no idea who the Lozi, Luba, or Lunda are, but I definitely think the rest of those would be pretty cool to have in the game. They're all unique in their own ways. Too bad I couldn't vote 10 times, lol...

African Kingdoms

I voted for Ethiopia, Angola, and Madagascar.

Ethiopia because, as cool as Aksum is and my belief that the more civs we have the better, I think it would be perfectly understandable in this case to mix in some elements of Aksum with Ethiopia. Plus it has a really long history, a few really notable leaders (my choice would be Menelik II but some of the others would be cool too), and its essentially the real-life Wakanda!

Angola because it was the most powerful vassal of the Kongo and it continued to be quite powerful as an independent state for some time against Portugal. Ana Nzinga is basically the only interesting pre-colonial leader choice.

Madagascar because, as a few others have said here already, it has a lot of history and its a unique civ that would great to finally see in-game. They also have several worthy leader options, I personally wouldn't even mind seeing Ranavalona I even if she is a more controversial choice.

I would love to see the Swahili and Zimbabwe/Mutapa but even I have to admit that info on their leaders is lacking. If either of them do have an interesting leader with at least a decent level of info on them then I'd love to know more about it. I also want to give shout-outs to the Somali/Dervish State, Buganda, and Luba as other choices that I wouldn't mind seeing.

Ethiopia should be a non-negotiable series staple. They're up there with Egypt and China for ancient cultures which have already passed the test of time...

Madagascar would be a very interesting newcomer, and I'd be excited to learn more about them. Tana has been a city-state in two games now, so maybe it can get its foot in the door as a fully-fledged civ.

Finally I went for Zimbabwe/Mutapa but I could just as easily have gone for Swahili. Maritime trade I'd already earmarked for Carthage, but I'm sure the Swahili or the Kilwa Sultanate could find a niche.

Ethiopia is an absolute must have for the game, and very deserving for a spot! It was the only civ to keep its independence during Europe's Scramble for Africa, and is the oldest independent civ in all of Africa.

I voted for Angola, Ethiopia and Madagascar.

I would have voted for the Swahili or Zimbabwe if we have more information on their leaders.
