Untitled Space mod

Hey dalek , I see your screenshot is exactly what I'm currently working on for my space mod (see my sig) :)
So it seems that our mod imaginations are compatible, so we can work together ! What do you think ?
If we can do so we need a roadmap at first, because doing a space mod is to change civ at every edge.

1) Id love to work together....I think
2) Im not fusing mods though. Keep them seperate atleast.
3) what's a roadmap? :mischief:.

Yeah, nice ;) At first I have a question about your planet terrain: how did you do that ? Just create a textured sphere and save this as a nif file and replace this with a .. peak.nif ? Something like that ?

Hm, ok.. I see, that you are very far with modding the terrain, but do you have something like a gameplay concept? I see, that my concept and your terrain modification could be combined together. So I don't want you to give up your mod, but at least hope for a little help with this terrain stuff...
3) what's a roadmap? :mischief:.
Oh, I mean a project plan, which defines what tasks have to be done by whom successively until the project goal (a complete mod version 1.0 ) is reached.

......ugh this is painful to throw any respect i had got from you....but......planets.....are........................................bonuses.......................are will stay like that. It works out. Just ask Promenthus! :mischief:. You can just jump out and return to your mod if you want now..

Hmmm - would not features be more appropriate?

There is no way of getting terrain 3D - you have to use bonuses, improvements or features (or a city, or unit). I personally think features are the best way, though bonuses would work.

why would Features be better? As far as I know, it is a lot easier to add bonuses to the game, and it is also a lot easier for each planet to have an identity. For instance, only certain things can be built on certain planets. This can all be done via XML.

If you realy think Features would be better, explain why. Bear in mind I am a very feeble modder (just look at my first post, its littered with clues like that.)

:wallbash: I KNEW I shouldn't have posted this up. I KNEW everyone is bursting for more modable terrains. I KNEW everyone here is smarter and older than me. I KNEW all I would look like was an idiot. I just wanted to post that picture up so bad....:suicide:

Que ?? Oh, this is very a shame..
But why should it be impossible to change the terrain itself ? though I see no mesh for a grassland tile but at least changing the hills to a spheres is possible, isn't it ?
Here a hill mesh :

If you hadn't posted it we probably wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place...

I've always had bonuses and techs connected in my head - you get a new tech and a bonus becomes visible... which doesn't really work for planets. Features also seem to be more of a "base-item" - bonuses go on top of features, not the other way around. You could then have the base set of plants, and stick your bonuses on the planets to diversify them.

You can make it so that only certain things can be built on certain features, so that's not a problem.

If you do decide to go with features, it shouldn't be too hard to switch. They both use .nif files. This is the reason you can't use terrains - they use 2D heightmaps, so you can't get proper 3D.

BTW - you don't look like an idiot. Everybody has to start somewhere. I also very much doubt you're that much younger than many of the modders here. Also... everybody was a feeble modder one day - time and perserverance can get rid of that.

Hmmm - if you check out CIV4ArtDefines_Terrain.xml there are no links to .nif files in there. As I said above, I think they're all done by heightmaps.

that makes me feel a little better.

Bonuses. Why have 2 things when you can have one? Also, either way, 2 might be neccasary. Why not the bonus be the graphic?
I don't rely care what I use realy, its realy what works out best. Bonuses are staying for now. But I still think this:

:wallbash: I KNEW I shouldn't have posted this up. I KNEW everyone is bursting for more modable terrains. I KNEW everyone here is smarter and older than me. I KNEW all I would look like was an idiot. I just wanted to post that picture up so bad....:suicide:

Good point - a bonus on a planet such as sources of titanium or something wouldn't really be visible from space.
