Update 1.3.0 is on the horizon + a message from the devs!

Awesome, I can't wait for the patch! As for future developments, I just hope that developing a feature that allows you to use only one civilization doesn't waste resources and slow down the development of the civilization switch feature, because I'm really enjoying it and would like to see more development on the latter. Instead, I'm really excited for the new legacy paths coming soon!

man...I really, really want a medieval age, it would solve all of these weird timeline oddities, split some civs, move a few back and forth and we could have stuff like

  • MEDIEVAL- Castille, Normans, Iceland - Tonga
  • EXPLORATION - Spain, England, Pirates - Hawaii
  • MODERN - Britain, Sweden - Maori
So, what would be a good Antiquity civ for Polynesia in this format? My best guess would be Samoa as they had established an "empire", well more like a confederacy, before the Tonga did?
I'm not surprised Tonga is in Antiquity because Hawaii is already Exploration and I presume they would want to eventually make a full Polynesian path.

For a medieval Polynesian civilization — assuming a medieval era exists in the game — I'd suggest Rapa Nui. Tonga is the best for Antiquity.

Looking good! I love to see naval gameplay getting some attention. Plus, it's neat that my guess that they'd make the Pyrates DLC free was spot-on! And on that note...

• 4 new Wonders: Great Lighthouse, Nan Madol, Great Blue Hole, Mapu'a Vaea Blowholes
The implication that the Great Blue Hole will be buildable is extremely funny to me.

It's just 2 new world wonders and 2 new natural wonders. Tonga will surely just use Haʻamonga ʻa Maui as their wonder.

I don't think we'd get one, and for several reasons.

1. I think they said it already, but the aim of each Age is to have their own gameplay. Ancient is about your home continent, Exploration is about... well, exploration. I don't know what mechanic they could bring to Medieval to make it unique enough.
2. Too many ages was one of the reasons Humankind felt lackluster. Three Ages if, for me, the perfact number. Enough to bring varities, not too many to clog up the system. I'm not even thrilled about a Future Era. Adding Medieval would just reinforce bad aspects of the switch mechanic.

Teach is my favorite leader of those that I wrote. It was Ludwig-level fun, and the voice actor is amazing. You all are in for a treat.
Did he record his lines on September 19th?

Free at the 'cost' of signing up for a 2K account presumably. It's escalated from scout cat to free leaders to now an entire DLC lol
Based on what? I didn't see that on the linked page. I assumed that it was just linked to your Steam (or whatever platform) account instead.

Religion and Vassals

IMHO, late antiquity/medieval would be the place to really flesh out these really bare bones areas of the game. It would make more sense during medieval to set a religion, expand it, and shape it to your needs, you could even add holy cities and holy wars.(you could bring passive religious spread) Then, the reformation could hit during exploration and you could pivot your religious output into other areas, it wouldn't feel as rushed and repetitious as it is now, all crammed up into 1 era.

Diplomacy is also one of the weaker sides of civ VII, being able to set up liberated settlements as semi independent vassals, or tie them together through religion.

Infraestructure wise, if they continue to diferentiate towns vs cities, you could set way more unique things like Abbeys or actual Castles.

The idea is that the continent fills during Antiquity, you use religion and vassals to solidify it and interact with a mostly full continent in other ways, setting up for exploration and do it again with Exploration and Modern.

EDIT: then civs like HRE/Frankia who could actually take advantage of all of this would feel really flavourfull.

Pirate Republic is eh, definitely softened by the fact that this is free which is huge and much appreciated. I haven’t played this game in some weeks but getting free content is definitely one way to get me back in. And what’s planned for the future sounds very promising.

I hope we get at least Taino in the Caribbean later on.

I too would like to see another age between antiquity and exploration. I agree a focus on religion and solidifying your position makes sense, but it is a two whole ages where half the map can't be explored...if added, it may make sense to limit expansion in Antiquity and open it up in the middle ages hypothetical age.

Not a huge fan of Pirate Civ, would have preferred the Barbary states, but like others I don't mind free content :)

Curious if Iceland will have the usual Viking spin on it, or something new?

based on the spoilers above, Iceland are all about reconaissance. Not that far off from Sukhi's Civ6 mod, I'd wager.
