Update 1.3.0 is on the horizon + a message from the devs!

based on the spoilers above, Iceland are all about reconaissance. Not that far off from Sukhi's Civ6 mod, I'd wager.
Funny that he is on the dev team now

The Privateer is interesting. I'm guessing that if I were to pillage another Civ's merchant, or take out one of their ships with the Privateer, it would not trigger a war, but would clearly impact your relationship with said Civ.

Also, if I see a Privateer enter my waters or come near one of my exploration ships, can I preemptively attack it? Or respond if I'm attacked?

On the whole that is a lot more than I hoped to see this month:woohoo:

Only a few days ago I expressed concerns about missing communication and a lack of a roadmap in another thread, drawing comparisons with pdx... Now not only some future plans are shared (including the direction of a classic mode), but there is also a move towards involving the community. That's really promising!

The naval stuff in the upcoming update is very welcome; coastal cities are lacking a bit so far, navy gets some needed depth and the ocean gets some variation and life. Workable ocean tiles might come in handy, when a 4th age comes at some point (and modders might make good use of it).

Tides of Power looks overall nice and I also don't mind getting a Pirate nation. Offering it "free to claim" is something for sure; how much exactly will depend on the conditions:
Free at the 'cost' of signing up for a 2K account presumably. It's escalated from scout cat to free leaders to now an entire DLC lol

Oh...no...?

Based on what? I didn't see that on the linked page. I assumed that it was just linked to your Steam (or whatever platform) account instead.
The FAQ says that we will get details in "how to claim" at Nov 4th. Beefing up the "link to 2k account thing" and creating a time restricted "in top"-offer for it is one variant (also because not doing it would let the pale the current bonus Napoleon). OTOH, if the intention is more to show goodwill and to win sceptical parts of the community back, then it even might fly without...as it could still pay out as a sales booster by being a nice incentive for people to get Civ VII for/around Christmas.

I think it's more this. Firaxis did something similar with Civ VI when regional pricing upset some customers in Brazil and elsewhere, giving us all two more civilizations & leaders for free.

Hey Firaxis, how about bringing back the d*mn whales?

I'm tired of crabs and fish. And these new resources are fine. But the people want whales!

Where my whales?
+1, especially since it was such an important deep sea resource and source of many things for sea communities

This hightlighted part is intriguing.

Remember the first announcement for 1.2.5, there was way less than what it ended up with.

Yes in the notes it says:
"As always, we’ve just covered the highlights here, so keep an eye out for the full update notes including more UI and quality-of-life improvements"

Releasing the content for free is the right call, and appreciated. The contents is obviously not a surprise to CivFanatics

Not particularly happy with the pirates as a civ before we have any other South American civ that isn’t the Inca. But Sid Meier and pirates just go together I guess and it’s free… Very happy with the other additions though.

The naval rework is welcome and I’m happy to see atolls come back from Civ 5.

And the option of keeping the same civ can be a good addition as long as it’s designed and integrated properly. I don’t know if that’s going to be the case, but will obviously reserve judgment til we see some details.
