Here is a intriguing thought experiment that popped into my mind.
In an imaginary near future scenario Britains foriegn policy via Isreal/Palestine experiences a dramatic change of heart. Deciding to make up for Britain's betrayal of the palestinians Britain's leadership with full support of the populace sides with the palestinian cause. The UK demands the dismantlement of the Isreali state and in its place a democratic palestine where jew, muslim and christian have equal rights and share of political power. Also the UK demands that all the Isreal's political prisoners be released, exiled palestinians and refugees are allowed to return and reparations be made to all those that lost loved ones or property due to the actions of the Isreali regime. The UK is prepared to settle this matter by force if need be. Isreal true to form denies UK's demands and prepares to meet UK force with force. War is brewing.. neither side will back down or comprimise. .. The rest of the world and the UN for whatever reasons stay out of the way...
You are US president. The people, congress, senate are evenly split as to which side they favour. It is up to you to set the direction of US policy on this crisis. Both the UK and Isreal are petitioning you to take sides. Who do you choose? Long time wartime and diplomatic ally and trade partner UK? Or Isreal with its large and influential expatriat population in US? It's your call. What do you do and why?
