After waiting ages to be able to get Broadband I finally got it in last week. Since then I have been having a number of problems with the modem. The modem my ISP provided is a Sagem 800/840 and so far I'm not impressed. When ever I start up Battlefield 1942 and I want to use my joystick (a Saitek Cyborg Evo if it helps) The modem sends up a message whining about a lack of USB bandwidth and it says it will adjust it, yet does nothing. This makes it virtually impossible to connect to internet, the modem goes from IDLE to INITIALIZING constantly and won't allow me to connect.

I don't know how I fixed it but it has happend a number of times. I think it involved a complex series of driver reinstalls and USB port switching to get it going again. But it will inevitably mess up again if I run Battlefield 1942, with or without my joystick connected. My mother board is an Abit NF7-S, it has two USB ports built into it and another 2 are conneced to the motherboard but it is placed where a PCI card should go (I should clarify the other ones DO NOT go through a PC slot, they are just placed where a PCI card could be used.) I have WinXP SP1 installed and the USB2.0 drivers seem to be working fine. I've tried a number of different combinations for my USB stuff, but the same thing always happens even if the modem is the only thing connected. Under Device Manager it says that there should be adequate bandwidth and power for each port.

This is really bothering me. So far I think it could be a modem problem as is probably my ISP cutting corners my giving out the cheapest stuff possible. Their tech support was useless, it was just some woman reading out directions from a page that they had already given me and that I had tried numerous times. They basically suggested a driver reinstall and a couple of restarts something I had done numerous times. They say they are having my phone line checked to see if there is a problem with that.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and how I could get around it. I kinda want to be able to play Battlefield 1942 and go on the internet. Prefarbly at the same time.

Right I've managed to get it going, but I always seem to have to do a complex series of driver uninstalls, resinstalls and restarts to get it going. Can anyone suggest a decent ADSL modem, preferably PCI. At this stage all these USB problems are really getting to me.

why not a stand-alone modem/router?
They also come with firewall capabilities and all you have to do is plug in your network cable, no compatibility issues between PC and modem.

Now that sounds good. Any suggestions? I'm sick of all these damn usb problems. I don't dare play battlefield in fear that it will mess it all up again.
