Hi, I've never posted on civfanatics and I've only lurked a bit. I play on immortal difficulty if I don't wanna necessarily win, emperor if I wanna win for sure and deity if I want to spend 5 minutes a turn to have a chance of winning. Any who I wanted to write some posts about using the various UUs, but am not sure the etiquette on this forum as to writing long overly specific posts on strategy. If no one minds, I'd be starting with war chariots, janissaries and horse archers.

Nobody "minds" if you write a strategy article. At least, not in the sense that you get thrown on an ignore list and ostracized. In terms of etiquette...organize it how you please. :)

Go for it, I'll be happy to read and possibly discuss your thoughts on the units.

aelf did his thoughts on some UU's in his Comprehensive UU Guide, but descriptions of many BTS units are missing. I would certainly look forward to such a guide.

I'm looking forward to your guide, and thanks in advance :) The current guide at the War Academy is a great job but unfortunately it's a bit outdated... I'd especially like to see how to (ab)use Jannissaries, because Ottomans are one of my fav civs both in game and in real life :)

There is actually a really interesting way to make use of the Janissary that I did once after reading about it somewhere. It was by Suleiman, running a specialist economy, bulbing my way to Liberalism and then taking Gunpowder as the free tech. Since I was really speeding it, I was there by 550 AD, which was early enough for me to be in a position to dominate all the AI's on the map (well, atleast a few of them before the rest got to Gunpowder) with Janissaries since I'd then have odds against anything they could field against me.

But yea, I suppose a proper guide would be nice.

Welcome, and by all means write away!

Sometimes a different approach or view can helps also, so don't worry that strategy articles have been written on some UUs.

Or you could contribute to the existing guide :p

For what it's worth, I'm planning on continuing with it some time soon when all my work has been cleared up. The flaw isn't so much with guide as with the writer, who is all too human :p People who contribute do get recognition at the top of the article, so you may want to consider it to avoid too much overlapping info.

I gather that the articles on the musket units need updating, as well as a few others that I don't recall at the moment. Anyone is free to make notes that will be added. I wish I had been more comprehensive with a citation system, but it's not possible to create one now.

UU's completely missing from the Comprehensive UU Guide:
1) Babylonian Bowmen
2) Byzantine Cataphracts
3) Holy Roman Landsknechts
4) Khmer Ballista Elephants
5) Maya Holkans
6) Native American Dog Soldiers
7) Portuguese Carracks
8) Sumerian Vultures

Basically all BTS UU's except Ethiopian Oromos and Dutch East Indiamen.
