Having read that it's possible to use the Windows version of the editor under Virtual PC, I decided to try this out. It does indeed run (details below if anybody wants them) but it doesn't quite work for me. I can create a map in the editor this way just fine, and start up a game on it all right. I can even save the game without problems. But, if I then try to reload, it pops an error and the game goes bonkers. (I won't go into details because I don't see any point.) I'm told editing the rules works, though I haven't tried that yet. Anyway, what I wanted to ask was this: has anyone succeeded in managing to make this work properly? Or if Brad happens to read this, do you know anything about how one could go about doing this (as an unofficial workaround, of course)?
Instructions for running editor under VPC:
1. D/L Windows editor (the 1.16 version, there are still hacked versions available in the files forum - 1.17 won't work at all, not surprisingly. It may after we get our patch.)
2. Place the "Civ3Edit.exe" file in your Civ 3 folder.
3. Start up VPC and share your Civ 3 folder.
4. From within VPC, start Civ3Edit. It complains it can't find Civ 3, choose ignore. It throws an error that it can't read a file, then starts up and you can use it.
