What is this tool ?

As a modder, it helps me a lot to create and manage tags in XML files in my mod.

Where can you download it ?

On this website : DOWNLOAD HERE
You can see the source code here

How does it help me and can help you?

In my mod I do not translate in German, Italian and Spanish.
The tool will automatically copy the English text version into German, Italian and Spanish values.

Moreover, all characters with accents in the XML files are automatically decoded and encoded in order to not have any issue from anywhere in the planet.
For your info, I recently have an issue with one of DoaNE player that have his computer in Japonese and the game could not be loaded.
With this tool, it does not have any issue.

This software helps Civ IV and Civ IV Colonization players, search, edit, remove or add tags in the Xml files of the game for texts with different languages.

I have this nearly complete tool https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/xml-gui-progress.561743/
Totally different approach. I had problems with distribution and decided to use the game engine as everybody have the game. The reason why it's not done yet is because it screwed me in regards to international support. Now I'm going to just ignore that it's not working well and point translators to this tool. I think my tool is better for some tasks like if you edit a tag, which is UnitClass, you do not write what you want, but rather it generates a list of UnitClasses. It also supports writing help text for each tag to inform what it's used for.

Now that sounds really interesting. The Japanese exe is compiled with support for two byte characters while the western one is compiled with one byte characters. Because of this, RoM (BTS mod) has managed to get the Japanese exe to display a subset of unicode, hence providing language support for a bunch of languages. I have tried to look into this for Colonization, but I have been unable to gain access to the exe file itself. If your contact can provide it, we could end up with partial unicode support.

Hi Nightinggale,

Good job !
That's a lot of work what you have done. But clearly your tool is more generic.
My personal issue was only about translations (and accents) that's why this tool is enough for me.
The tool that I have developed is quite simple for searching tags or words inside translations. You can have a try, you will see.

You see contact the player in Japan, see in Reported bugs thread in DoaNE:
https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/doane-report-bugs.623112/

I will have a deeper look of what you did soon.

I was a bit sad that you ditch what you did, that's why I have updated the tool to handle gender. It is my Christmas gift in advance ;)
This tool is open source see above, so if you find bug or improvements you can send me pull requests.

I'm not ditching what I did, but I will change focus and make my editor good at everything besides string handling, because game engine limitations will prevent me from ever making the text input even remotely as good as what you have made. I still plan to release the best editor ever made for modifying or adding contents to the data xml files.
