This may have been around in earlier versions but the situation never arose.
It appears that AI requests for a little chat are all made at once and then queued up to be resolved which can create a problem if AI 1 asks you to declare war on AI 2 the same turn that AI 2 is coming to chat with you about something. In a game I recently played, Alex asked me to declare war on Catherine, which I was only too happy to do. As soon as I closed the diplo window with Alex, Catherine was there to request a resource trade. However, when I suggested we negotiate, the only thing she was willing to discuss was a peace treaty (which she was happy to agree to). This let me pick up the diplo bonus with Alex for a shared military adventure without spending a single full turn at war!
