Chalid's probably the new best bet now that the magic tree has been neutered and Chalid has been given one of its best old spells as a free one.

The new patch has really re-done how priest spells work. The order lost one of its best offensive stack attack spells (circle of flame) and gained Unyeilding Order (no unhappiness in the city). Overall order priests are probly not the strongest unit to have vampirized, perhaps Kilmorph (with earthquake) or Empirium (with circle of Flame and Chalid) would be best now.
