This happened earlier in the month, and yes I have some negative comments to make. If this bothers you, go read another thread.

The problem I have is not with the parade itself, it's the manner in which its participants chose to conduct themselves. They walk around virtually in the nude, sometimes literally in the nude, dry humping each other, shouting lewd comments at anyone insane enough to bring their children to the event, and basically demean themselves in the worst way possible.

Here's some photos.

And of course, there's much worse stuff that can't be shown on this "family friendly" forum.

You can't look at that stuff and honestly tell me it's family friendly. Why on Earth would anyone, gay or straight, bring their children to look at such displays like that?

All gays do when they conduct themselves in that manner is make themselves look like a carnival sideshow. They confirm every single negative gay stereotype out there. Now gay marriage is legal in Canada, so it's not like the gay rights movement is morally or intellectually relevant anymore, but displays at events like this do a tremendous disservice to the gay rights movement overall. They trivialize themselves, and rather than making the case that they're normal human beings.

They should be seeking to portray themselves as regular people. I'm all for pride parades and celebration of differences, but this kind of stuff takes it too far and only damages their own cause.

Not that it should have been stopped or broken up. If they want to demean themselves, that's fine. But the police should have handed out tickets for lewd conduct in public or public nudity.

Discuss.

"Social engineering" is the best answer I can give for this; no parent with common sense would bring their child to something as ridiculous as that.

Reportedly, many parents brought their children and watched from the sidelines.

Pasi is quite right. As much as it pains me to say that.

It kind of looks like Spring Break or biker week in Sturgess without the chicks.
Both places you wouldn't want to bring your young kids.........

the gay pride movement will continue to see itself as relevant until they secure (in their heads) that level of acceptance that the culture will never get to.

that said, I disapprove of the actions in this display, seeing them as damagingly flamboyant and unnecessary. If the goal is to dispel stereotypes, then they've failed. hard. on the other hand, if the goal was to show how they can do whatever the . .. .. .. . they want, then they've succeded beyond their wildest dreams.

And they wonder why they are stereotyped so badly by others.

Of course, since few people will publicize photos of homosexuals just going about their business, these will be more prevalent. Thus, if anyone wouldn't know anything else from what they see on TV or this thread, they'll come to such a stereotypical conclusion.

Good thing most parents don't watch their kids watch MTV with the women with skimpy outfits on...

Oh wait...

Would you mind not quoting the entire post including the pictures? It's a pain in the rear.

Agreed, If they dressed more modestly, they would not be stereotyped so badly.

I agree.

Then again if straight pride parades existed and a bunch of half-naked girls were in it, making out with random people, I'd probably take off my pants and join in the fun!

So in a way I can understand it. If gays ran the world and straight people were oppressed, couldn't get married, were made fun of, etc. and we got a parade, I'd probably approach it with a "screw the gays, let's get naked and get down with the heteros" attitude.

They're either naive to what actually happens at one of those parades, or else they're listening to some flake new-age "psychologist" that got their degree at Hamburger University.

Definitely a bad image to be displaying to society. I certainly wouldn't go to see this sort of nonsense. This is not Gay Pride, its more like "Lets See How Homosexually Kinky We Can Get".

Go to Mardi Gras. Or heck, go to the West Indian Day Parade here where half the women are wearing nothing but strings.

Heterosexuals have them too. But since homosexuals have those hills to climb, things like this will only lead to such stereotyping.

Okay, that made me laugh.

I wonder if this would constitute "shoving down your throat" material as it all seems fairly unnecessary and detrimental, especially in Canada of all places.
