Vanilla patch 1.74 won't recognize Civ 4

I'm having a weird problem. I've done everything, but the patch keeps giving me this:



This happens regardless of wether its 1.74, 1.61 or 1.09. Hell I even downloaded the patch via the Civ 4 game itself. But it still won't recognize the game!!

The game is clearly installed you can see it, on the center of left most colum. Hell I played it today. So why won't the patches install?

I have the Cd. Though I think I lost the second one...

its not gold edition by any chance? that would not need the patch.
apart from this: when you open the game and click on go advanced then on about this build - could you post a screenshot?
