I am doing some VB5 programming, but one thing really annoys me. Microsoft have made it, so that you must buy the full, version of their IDE to compile and make exe's. :( :(

I would really like a free exe maker, does anyone know of one???

I am missing something here.

IIRC, there was a free Control Creation Edition of VB5. Is this the one you are using? Are you only able to make ActiveX controls with it?

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm using, VB5CCE. It's ashame there's no free one, but it's nice idea to send it to people, never thought of that one! Probably cause no-one does it that I know!!! :)

I may send you one, CornMaster, if you don't mind, but not yet. I'm only doing basic stuff, but in my Third year in High School, I'll be doing some VB6. Or Fourth year!

I think it would be all right to get a pirate copy in this case. They'll get one more person interested in their program and language who isn't likely going to pay hundreds of dollars for it anyway or use it to sell the program. So both you and Microsoft gain on it.:) Maybe this is not the way to reason, but I think it's better than downloading games or music.

I do like to be legal though!

I get what you're saying though, ashame they don't give it for free. I'm only doing VB5. VB7 is the newest, I think. Why not let people get the old versions for much much chearper? Or Free??

Microsoft need to be a little more generous!

How about student's version? Isn't it much cheaper?

$100 is pretty much, I probably wouldn't pay more than $20. Not that it's not worth more, but because there's no way I can use it for its intentional use.

I'm not sure, is there a version 7 or is it that one that is called .NET. I read that .NET was very much different from former versions and older vbp-files wouldn't work with it.

I wouldn't really sell my programs though, it's just for family and friends, and for hobby. I wouldn't make any profit to make up for the gigantic price. Student's version is the one I meant, when I siad it was expensive. :(

You can find the student editions in with books that teach you how to use it (I found VC++6 like this). I was able to compile and all. I paid $25 USD for it.

That's why I don't sell my programs.

Although maybe one day I'll sell a few...and then by a legitimate copy. But I have a problem with intellectual property rights....and until they are resolved...I will continue to aquire free or cheap software...and release freeware. :)
