Version 1.0.1.221a Available

Really? I have the same machine and while I could say that it "rocks" during the initial stages, its performance suffers noticeably as I explore the map...

I have to confess that I was waiting for this patch to really start playing seriously so I haven't completed a game yet, but I'm at turn 230 in my current game and I still haven't noticed any degradation. I haven't done a lot of exploring yet, though. I'm about to send out ships, which will reveal far more of the globe. How does your performance suffer and at approximately what turn?

I don't have a steam account but I recently read that the patch was supposed to auto-install regardless. I just installed Civ V yesterday yet I continue to have issues with the invisible menu. Is the patch available online (other than on Steam)?

Thanks,
Cyric

How are you playing it with out registering it on Steam? Even the MAC version has to be activated once on Steam and that means creating an account...

But I didn't download the game through steam... why would I have to register through them?

It doesn't matter if you bought it from Direct2Drive or some other digital service, or from a box store on a DVD. Civ5 is a Steam game and you have to activate it on Steam.

The patch was successfully installed and I was finally able to register this (same) computer to run the Mac version (I run the Windows version in a partition on the same machine). Now for quite a few hours I get a message saying the Steam servers are too busy to allow me to run the mac version of Civ5 so I cannot check it out. The Windows version runs right away with no "busy" message. What's going on?

Anyone with an ATI x1600 check to see if it works now? (Yes, I know it's officially unsupported, but I'm still hoping...)

Diplomacy is a few messed up, i explain : Others civs can denouncing easily you while you are on declaration of friendship with them...

In my current game i have seen AI declaring war on me two or three once, not very normal isn't it ?

If not turns are really improved...

Do you plan to release the next patch for Mac more fast than the current one after PC version ? Thanks AspyrRyan if you have some clues for this...

But, for me, Civ 5 is better patch after patch...

EDIT : i have the opinion that diplomacy is so messed up...

EDIT 2 : I played Standard Earth script with 22 civs and no city-states...
What about the possibility to play the number of available official civs ?

With Polynesia, it counts 23 Civs, why cant we play 23 civs at once ?

I downloaded the latest version and also sorted out my Steam Guard issue (I play both Windows and Mac versions on my iMac, the former in a partition). When I attempt to run the game it performs a check and says everything is okay, but them gives me a Steam error saying all Steam servers are too busy to handle my request and try again later. It's been that way for more than a day so there must be some problem. What to do?

Any idea if we'll be able to download the new DLC when it comes out in May...??

Yes and no.

(Yes, we will eventually. No, not when it comes out. We'll need to catch up to the PC patch that's about to land before we can use that DLC. For reference, the last turnaround on patch update was about 6-8 weeks.)

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but this is the first patch to come out since I've purchased Civ 5; as far as I'm aware, Steam has never prompted me to download the patch. I haven't received a prompt or information window or anything saying it was going to download it. Is there anything I need to do to prompt it to download the patch? Or is there some method I can check what version of Civ 5 I am running to see if it downloaded when I was unaware?

Again, sorry if these are terribly basic questions.

Unless you have disabled auto updates in Steam, Steam will automatically download all game patches, you need do nothing. But you can check your Civ5 version by running the game and checking the version number at the bottom of the screen on the main menu screen.

Hi Ryan et al,

Since I applied this patch, I can no longer defer promotions or social policy choices. Is this a bug, or the intended behavior?

Thanks.

I know that changed in the previous patch, but I don't know of any changes to it in 1.0.1.221a. Did you select the options on Advanced Start to Allow Policy/Promotion Saving?

Aha! thanks. Those options were not set. I didn't remember having to set them for my previous game; perhaps the prefs were trashed or something when i downloaded the new version (trying to install the patch merely led to the previously discussed errors.)

I think the default should be for those to be set.

Thanks, again.

What systems are you running that you get smooth graphics? I'm on a 3.06 dual core iMac with an Nvidia 8800, and it LAGS. Plays perfectly on the Windows side though.

Thanks for the info. I can't win this game.

I'm pretty much convinced no system can run it smooth on a Mac. I'm playing it at 1920x1200 windowed on a Mac Pro 12 core 2.93 Ghz with 32GB memory and a Radeon 5870 yet on a huge map it's still not completely smooth and I end up with those strange graphics glitches every so often (red/white squares or map tiles that are grey).

No idea what Aspyr tests it on but it sure as hell isn't a Mac you can buy from Apple...

This is indeed disturbing and sad. I was planning on upgrading my iMac, but if it won't help this issue... then I'm not so sure.

Hmmm....
