After long investigation on two forums, (long for this brain) I don't see any fixes nor any in-game play problems as a result of the Error 1706 pop up during patch 1.74 install. I recommend that you try to just ignore the pop up, click OK and let it go to completion, then play Civ! If you want to uninstall the game you can pop in Disc 1 of Civ4 and click on the Setup.exe icon and it will open the uninstaller. Works fine that way. Mine just wouldn't uninstall from the Add/Remove programs page. Firaxis is aware of this and they said to just use the disc to do it and that works for mine.

The patch made the game crash at initialization, and no uninstall techniques worked, trust me.

What kind of PC system are you playing on?
O/S, graphics card, sound card, processor?

What kind of Civ4 game?
Gold, Game of the Year, Online download etc?

Not that I can help fix it, I'm just curious what the problem senerios are like.

500 gigabyte hardrive
2 gigabyte Readily Available Memory
Onboard Graphics Card (will change to Radeon 9250 soon)

The game works fine now, without the 1,74 patch.
