As an old school Civ 1- 3 player I'm both disgusted and amazed.

Starting resources are huge bonus in all Civ games so manipulating them should be immediately noticeable.

On the other hand, I can see that Civ series will never (never say never) have good anti-cheat engine for MP games.

What do you think? Is cheating common in MP?

I think this guy was cheating by using that play by play map mod thing, which would allow him to find villages and city states faster.

Yeah I figured he just ran the same game on another machine somehow

(Sort of what online chess cheaters do: match the opponent human's moves in another instance of the game, then reproduce what the computer does in response.)

It wouldn't be so pathetic if he didn't put out some short novel about how he could accurately predict tribal village placement based on map type...
Just goes to show you, the only real competitive versus games should be in-person only.

i know how he does that and he is not cheating. If he tells you he gives away his master strategy.
But ill tell you as its very easy to understand and replicate. he knows where all the huts are because he is using the same map seed number each time he plays the game. he plays the same map and starting position on each game start. he just knows the map inside out and this is a built in feature and totally legal. Not many players know this.
They where wrong to ban him.
As a lawyer i could sue that civ league website for defamation on his behalf and win easily.

I'm sure that this guy would appreciate your defense of "he's not cheating, he's just bad at the game and can only use one map".

I'm also sure that you'll be able to successfully sue Jobst where multiple other fraudsters have failed. I highly recommend you file suit as soon as possible and this does constitute legal advice.

Wait, are you arguing (and apparently in such a way that you can win a lawsuit easily) that he
1) learns a map seed before playing multiplayer by heart so he knows where everything is down to the minutest detail;
2) is the person who chooses the map seed each time (i.e., not random, nor by anyone else);
3) and starts these maps without communicating this foreknowledge to anyone else;

and you would call this not cheating? :crazyeye:

Yeah, good luck with that... :rolleyes:

But don't they show multiple maps from different games in the video? So this alleged cheater would have to learn multiple maps this way, and host maps, and never join maps, and not have anyone say they want to use a random map and agree to this...
