Video Streaming (IE/Firefox)

Despite having the latest versions of IE, Firefox, WMP & Real Player, I'm unable (often) unable to view streamed video in webpages. Video sites like youtube work fine, but whenever I find a media player like WMP embedded in the page, the best I can seem to get is a "Connecting" message. Usually, the player just goes dead - I'm still waiting for the video to load, but the page isn't doing anything.

I have the latest browsers, players and codecs, so I'm sort of at a loss. I don't know if I'm missing something else or if I've screwed up my computer somehow...

Anybody with any ideas? Links?

I seem to have the problem that it only plays the first few seconds, so I right click and then select save link as or some something like that.
