Some time ago, El Justo contacted me about making a new interface for his Vietnam Mod, which he was thinking of updating. There was no rush, he said, so I put it on my long list of project ideas and worked on it off and on for a year, as I felt like it.

Sometime after that, I was showing some of my work to my Dad, who was a Vietnam Vet, having served there as an officer for two tours 1966-67 and 1970-71. He immediately started to make suggestions for the interface, the map and the mod - so many that I started a notebook for them. From that time until he died this last Christmas Eve, he continued to ask about the 'vietnam project', and continued to brainstorm mod ideas with me. During these conversations, I got to hear a lot of war stories, but also to see some new sides of him - as expert map-reader and tactician, for instance.

When my Dad died, I decided to finish the mod in his honor. Long live his memory.

So this will be the first installment of my new Vietnam mod; the map, with customized terrain will be next. I've discussed this with El Justo, who is now busy with Storm over Europe, and has given his blessing to my plans.

This interface will work perfectly well with El Justo's Vietnam Mod, playing as South Vietnam/MACV. I included a custom left box for the main screen made just for EJ's mod; see the Readme for details.

The Download is >here<.

Damm, what´s going on here...what a gem, downloading immediatly, R.I.P Balthasar's Dad.
Fixed it for you. AFAIK El Justo's fine.

I knew you were working on this but having seen it - Your father's contribution is evident in the depth of detail. Things like the J numbers & field equipment elements. Don't normally play strictly modern scenarios, but one developed with the help of someone who actually lived it should be special.

El Justo is still very much with us! Thanks for the correction. Yes, Dad contributed alot to the City Screen designations in particular - deciding which civ-function matches which military function, and the use, as you note, of "J" rather than "G" numbers (designating Joint Command staff rather than General Staff because MACV was a joint command).

Wow, what a great interface, especially the city screen!:goodjob:

OMG! El Justo MUST incorporate this into his scenario! This is the BEST! Especially the city screen!

EDIT: Well...I was all excited about DLing this then noticed it was a .rar file. Went to DL a free version of WinRAR and it's asking me to sign up for some sort of advertiser's program. So much for the Vietnam pack. :(

I'd be happy to send it to you in a different format, Gary. Heck, without you, there probably wouldn't be a Vietnam Mod!

@Gary: Get a shareware version, just for the occasion, or PM me.

@Balthasar: neat! I must get (a) history book(s) to compare with.

Hi Balthasar, I managed to find a program, something called 7-zip which opens the rar files. I seem remember when WinRAR used to be free and you didn't need to sign up for any promotions. What the heck happened with those people?

Oh well, anyway I've found a way around it and I can enjoy your beautiful screens. Thanks again for a primo, first rate job on those! :)

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Balthasar. I've been looking forward to seeing this interface finished and glad to see it came out so well. I especially like the Espionage screen and the rice baskets for food. Great work with superb detail.

I especially like the Espionage screen and the rice baskets for food....

Thanks, Tony. I spent some serious time to get the details of the "Covert Ops" screen right. The insignia at the top are all from various Vietnam era Covert operations/units. The picture 'tacked up' on the left is an actual photo of an 'Air America' operation in Laos.
