Thanks GR8Madmax. It just goes to show the impact small errors can have at this level, I guess. If I hadn't offsided France by stealing tech off them, there may well have been no vote! But then I might have lost some other way. All I can say for sure is that if it had come down to a military show down, then I would have won.

Read your whole story and enjoyed it, sorry about how it ended. You mentioned in the second to last I think that you didn't think there was a difference between stealing with spy and stealing with embassy. Oystein just finished an article today, I think, that tells all about the espionage screen. Anyway, your odds are way better when you steal with a veteran spy than when you use the embassy.

In many ways I agree with your sentiment, Steviejay, but I will still play with diplo enabled, and just have to find a way to beat the game even with it. As to another Viking saga - maybe. I sort of hate the Vikings. After my berserk luck in this game, I basically vowed to myself never to play them again! But I was assuming that I was going to win at the time. So maybe I will have to bite my pride and do exactly as you suggest.

Just remember Sand, a game is meant to be fun. Making a game into work and forcing yourself to do something in it defies the purpose.

lol, but sometimes it can get personal. when I lost my first Spanish game all I could think of was "i WILL win", after the second game I came slightly dishearted due to the way I lost (well I didn't loose but loosing the save constitutes a failure on my part) but after a while I though "no, this time, it'll be different"
