Viking UHV

I take my axemen in my galley directly to Rome. It's such a powerhouse city you can support near 100% research even with North American cities.

I just go for Astronomy as fast as i can then turn all my cities for wealth and spam GP merchants, doing some pillage is good as well. Remember the sinking 25 ships is not something you should worry about early on so focus on the other 2 goals.

Yes, for me astronomy and then chemistry (for Pirates who both pillage and sink ships at the same time) are what you beeline for. Make sure your great people are merchants, and send them abroad to achieve your monetary goals.

Definitely one of the simpler UHVs, IMO.

Cheers, Luke

I used GP merchants (they got me 1100 gold each at monarch) and sent pillagers to the Greece-Costantinopolis-Italy area.

Pillage improvements near a city, move to another area, and go back after a few turns so their workers have time to rebuild mines/pastures/wineries.

Or you could declare war on an European civ (Germany for example) and go pillage with berserkers. But don't start too early, make sure they develop their land a bit or there won't be much to get.

One word, pillaging. You get so much gold from destroying improvements.

Yup essential to get the gold *IF* your at war with folk.

I do too but dont rely on them. Caste system is handy for churning them out and hitting the 5k gold early. Normally i build forge, granary, courthouse, market in each of my cities using chops where possible but the real way to make the cash I found is to hire out Mercs. You have an early couple of galleys so can start gaining contacts and thus hiring out all those axemen.

Forget about astronomy. You don't even need this as Viking. Just capture Thenochitlan or Cuzko, built a settler there and make a city. It works. So, you might minimaze science to 0% exactly after gaining Optics and Civil Service. For me, it was more than 5000 gold in 1430.
Another question, what "sink 25 ships" exactly mean? At 1500, F9 said me I sunk 8 galleys, 13 triremes and 4 caravels. It's 25, right? Don't ships sunk at ports count?
However, I'd won this unless that Turkish bug...

I just finished this UHV. Built seven cities, built libraries, created scientists for research, and set the slider to full gold production. Reached 5000 gold in 1470, settled Vinland in 1475. Beat the Dutch by one turn (phew). Luckily the Germans and the Russians were too busy taking each other out to bother with behind-in-techs me.

Afterwards, make many privateers and go nuts.
