is it possible to see such things? I cannot see how people view one another, including myself? e.g nothing that indicates "friendly" or "cautious"

is this missing

Yup.

If they didn't want to show things like +5 or -10 etc. I can understand that.

But atleast give us a screen that shows varying degrees of colored smiley faces for each civ and what he feels about the other civs (including vs. you).

What is weird is that the combat system is very transparent making the complexity easy to grok. On the other hand they went the opposite route with diplomacy, opaque and confusing.

Isn't the ai opponent's face in and of itself a subjective measure of his feeling's towards you?

if that's true it's good but at the same time I like to just hover over and scan diplomacy vs me

The AI's behavior, tone, and expressions are a huge clue.

There is also a window within the Diplomacy screen that displays varied levels of relations. But, let's face it, this is the most realistic level of Diplomacy for a true Civilization game. Each AI is trying to win the game in his/her own way. So, instead of falling into a comfort zone concerning relations you have to be fully aware of what each AI is doing and how they feel about you.

I know, they made it too simple.

Or little hearts, like in Harvest Moon, and when it's a big, flashing heart, you can give Askia a Blue Feather and he'll marry you. :mischief:

Yeah! I miss this too. There's not even a summary of who is at war with whom. Really bad.

actually there is is a summary screen
