Why is there not a voice chat like vent or teamspeak? I would love to be able to acctually communicate with a person while I play instead of text-chatting. If you believe we should have a public chat for all Civ players with subcatergories for each game then post below saying you agree. If you do not agree with my post, then tell me why. I do understand that hosting a chat can be expensive. :help::help::help:

Thanks everybody that posts.:D:D:D:D:D:D

X-Fire supports voice chat, and you host the call if you can handle the bandwidth. I think steam does it do, but I don't know if it can cope with more than 2 people

xfire is great for voice calls and they have free servers that you can have hosted for you if you have more than a 1 to 1 call going on.

(you can also host the voice server yourself with a group, just like a 1 to 1 call). Xfire is all I use now. It's great and its free!

Skype is the worst thing in the world. So much bandwidth for such crappy quality
Than your experience differs radically from mine. Which comparable service would you recommend?

It's been some time since I've tried any of the others referenced in this thread so far, aside from Steam's: in addition to the limitation Poke noted, I found the quality and reliability to me atrocious. Notably, it only 'transmits' after one person begins to speak, inevitably missing part of what a person has said.

Steam is required for Civ5, and Steam has voice-chat built in. Why not use it? When I played Civ5 with 2-3 other friends, we always used Steam's voice chat. It's not perfect, but it's a serviceable option. (If I was serious about Civ MP, I'd just use my Ventrilo server, but we only played MP maybe three times before we stopped bothering with it.)

Either way, whether you use it or not, the presence of Steam voice chat negates any need for Civilization 5 to have its own embedded voice client. It'd be a foolish waste of resources for Firaxis to develop one specifically for their game.
