I would like to point out that a move to the Civ4 Stories and Tales would be the closest to returning to the status our community had prior to Civ4. In that position we had stable, controlled growth that allowed us to thrive.

As I believe I first voiced the idea of "Scattershot" (though not the name), I think it's obvious what I would endorse. The reasoning behind it is pretty simple:

1) If we want to draw in the maximum number of people, we should have as many ways to access this area as possible.
2) We want a good ratio of storytellers to gamers. Therefore, as presumably storytellers frequent the Stories and Tales forums, we should link to them.

Scattershot is my choice to. Sounds the best to bring many new players and possibly many new MODs some of which will be good... Ahh... yes.

I concur with the scattershot analysis.

Pre-move, however, we'll need to set up a significant support infrastructure to handle the increased traffic and visibility, along with volunteers to run a training game and manage a revamped FAQ/Guide thread. (I would happily volunteer to do the latter.) We should also appoint a small team to quietly probe for interest in other forums.

If Option 5 fails, I support Option 2.

EDIT: Poor das is going to have a seizure when he wakes up and sees this. :p

Based on sheer postcount:

-Of the 46 full fledged forums on CFC, the NESing sub-forum is larger than 41 of them.
-The Never Ending Stories sub-forum is 168.8% of the All Other Games forum's size.

These statistics will be useful in making the argument for a full sized forum.

Here are some earlier statistics I collected as well:

The NESing sub-forum has 41.3% of all threads created in the Civ3 Stories and Tales forum, which includes the regular section and Succession Games. However, NESing contains 56.1% of all posts created in the Civ3 Stories and Tales forum.

NESing also represents 5.6% of ALL posts created on the Civilization Fanatics' Forums. Not bad, given that our community (estimated at 50 members, fluctuating) is about .03% of the total CFC member population.

What do you mean by "larger"?

I vote for the scattershot. I think we'd be able to get the most coverage that way.

Sure, a ton of people might come storming in, but I think it's all for the better.

Yep, it correlates. (With the post #11 figures.)

Of course, the only real way to break down the post/thread disparity would be to painstakingly analyze the number of characters typed in each forum to get a final gross value of comparative fora output.

Since that seems kind of impossible, we'll have to go with posts. :p

Are there any other measures of activity? How else might we measure dedication and sustained interest?

Flash! North King and Symphony asked me if I would consider writing the missive to TF with our request. I would be pleased to so if there aren't any objections.

Bird, you're the perfect one to do that. Though not immediately, of course, since a full consensus (out of the agreed 50-55 member total) has yet to be achieved.

I think that we should ask TF for a period of time (perhaps 7 days) in which to restructure the forum's sticky threads and such, and plan the proposed training NES, to have all the infrastructure already in place to handle increased traffic when the move occurs.
