Sorry, I did look for this a bit here and on the civiliopedia but couldn’t find an answer.

1.) If you are a “voting member” instead of a “full member” in the UN because you defied some resolutions, are you still eligible to run for U.N. Secretary General next election if you have the highest population?

2.) If the answer is no to #1, can you become a full member again by voting for a resolution that passes?

3.) If the answer is yes to #1, what exactly is the penalty for being a voting member as opposed to a full member of the UN, or is there none?

And yes of course I know about 5  for defying. That is not what I'm talking about.

But while we're on it, is it possible to get 15  from stacked defying resolutions or does it cap out at 10?

Shucks, no helpful eager beavers in Asia or with insomnia want to help a brother out? Guess I’ll go into this blind, approve the next resolution, damn the consequences and pray for a diplo win as it’s my only shot (short of some sort of improbable nuclear holocaust.)

I don't know... but I think if you vote yes in a resolution that passes the unhappiness is removed so I guess you become a full member again... from the apostolic palace you can see that full members are members with the state religion of the AP and can become the Leader of the AP whereas the members are the people without the state religion but have the religion in one of their cities and cannot become the AP leader so I guess it is like that with the UN you need to be a full member to be the Sec Gen

Nope, the unhappiness just goes away after a certain amount of turns.

That’s my guess too but I want to know for sure.

Anyway, on to the game, which I just completed. Izzy built the UN and Bizzy had the highest population. Bizzy got elected. I had +10  for defying 2 resolutions, Environmentalism and Universal Suffrage. Then my population surpassed Bizzy and I was in good standing with enough votes. A 3rd resolution came around, Emancipation. I voted for it and was a full member again.

Now I thought I read somewhere it went 1st election, 5 turns resolution, 5 turns resolution, 5 turns resolution, 5 turns 2nd election. But 5 turns after I voted for Emancipation (3rd resolution vote) and was a full member...there was no election and Bizzy calls for Universal Sufferage for a 2nd time.

Where can I find the order of resolutions to elections?

But then I won an AP victory before the next election :king:. Which is cool but I still don’t know the answer to my question.

I don't know about the the order of resolutions other than i thought there was 4 then a new vote..

It's possible to get 20  from defying.

Forget which ALC it was, but they kept defying because they wanted to wipe out the civ they were at war with rather then have peace. Was massive unhappiness back home after that.

I'm not completely sure on this, but I believe that you must be running the AP religion to be eligible (i think that's what makes you a full member). You can however vote for AP resolution or leader if the AP religion has spread to one of your cities. The amount of votes that you get depends on the amount of pop you have in cities with AP religion. And only those cities are eligible for unhappiness for defying resolutions (although I'm not sure what happens if one your cities gets the AP religion after defying).

I believe that you get the unhappiness from defying disappears after a positive vote for a resolution.

I've never seen more than 25  for defying an AP or UN resolution.
But I guess it's possible to have a max of 50  for defying both AP and UN resolutions.

This is off topic my OP, which doesn't seem to be getting answered.

A lot of answers, but I have a basic question. Do you really mean UN? There is no such thing as "full member" or "voting member" in the UN. All civs are members with equal rights. The questions as written make no sense. I'll try a few simple answers.

1. UN - the highest population Civ is always eligible for UN Secretary General. AP IIRC you have to be a full member (even if a voting member could, it'd the rare for them to be eligible)

2. UN - N/A. AP - yes.

3. UN - N/A. AP - full member gets double the votes in all proposals and elections.

Thank you coanda.

Ataxerxes : See my screenshot. Whether ‘full member’ or ‘voting member’ mean anything for the UN is what I’m asking – but the labels full member and voting member certainly do exist.

My current interpretation is this-

If you are not a full member you can not be Sec Gen, making UN diplomatic victory very unlikely.

The only time it could happen in this instance would be if an AI were to call for a diplo win and you had the highest population and got all the votes required. Which would obviously be very dumb of the AI to do but sometimes that doesn’t stop them.
