VoxPopuli Modpacks (Update: 4.16.0)

Is there anything I can do about slow turn transition times in multiplayer other than upgrading my hardware? I tested different modpacks with my friend the other day and 4.6.2_SSEMSU-NoEUI was practically unplayable with over 2 minute-long turn transitions from the very beginning even on a standard-sized map. When we went back to regular no-EUI 4.6.2 the turn transitions got faster.

No, not at all, we just have to wait insane amounts of time between pressing the next turn button and the civ and barbarian icons lighting up indicating that AI is playing its turn.

Is it possible to add EUI to the stablest MP pack? For those of us who can't live without it and can live with a few extra crashes

I do not have the problem at all. I don't know why you have it :(

Thanks, Agiwan for the modpack.

For me, in multiplayer, 4.6.2_SSEMSU-NoEUI.zip is as stable as 3.10.14_VP-SSEM_EUI.zip.

However, even with significantly better AI and new awesome features, 3.10.14_VP-SSEM_EUI.zip is more fun.

I can't live without EUI.

I face such issues very few times in 3.10 (not sure about v4+). They mostly occurs when there are a lot of military units / in end game. I suppose it is related to AI path finding.

My only explanation is that it could be caused by the difference in our CPUs. I have a Xeon X5450 and my friend has a Ryzen 5000 series one, that's roughly 13 years between the two CPUs.

Are you talking about multiplayer? Cuz it never occurs for us in singleplayer either. In fact, whenever one of us leaves the multiplayer game, the turn transitions become instantaneous.

^ Yes, it happens in multiplayers. I don't know about single player. It is good to know, thanks.

I will test the modpack again to be sure.

Edit: No problem for me. Do you have the problem with other modpacks/vanilla civ5 ?

I feel you VP with EUI is way better than without, but I want the stablest VP experience in MP possible, and EUI is known to cause crashes (and maybe even more in MP).
I hate to be in late game and ask everyone that we have to load the game (with deleting the cache before) and do the whole turn again because someone crashed : it takes so long and breaks the multiplayer experience.

Maybe there could be an alternative "Disclaimer: Less Stablest" pack with all of the other multiplayer-related tweaks but just with EUI added?

^ I think Agiwan have already tested it. If Agiwan says so, I believe it is the way.

Attempt on a bad mod composition will just leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

You should begin to believe in Agiwan. hohoho

Agiwan, about the long turn transition, I don't think you will find the issue soon.

For me, it occurs only 1 of every 6 multiplayers games. In the game that has issues, it occurs only 2-3 turns of 200-300 turns. Each of such turn takes 1-2 minutes.

It is a very minor issue (for me). When it happens, the long pause creates an impression that the game is going to crash, but actually it is not.

I will do a modpack like that, do not hesitate to share how the game are with it when you will use it :)

Not for vanilla as far as I can recall. The problem is there to a certain extent with other modpacks, but it's not as bad. In 4.6.1 with EUI, it seemed kind of random, as sometimes the problem would disappear when loading a game, then it would reappear when loading it again later. In 4.6.2 without EUI, we managed to play the first 100 turns or so of our first game with instant turn transitions. Then, when we reloaded that game later, the transitions got slower (though not unbearable). In our most recent game (4.6.2 no EUI), we played with 30-90 second transitions all throughout.

Never heard of that. Yeah maybe the old Xeon cpu is problematic?

That looks so unplayable.

The duration is very similar to mine, and I played 3.10 in a new computer (AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor). Thus, I don't think it is related to the old CPU.

Do you ever play VP 3.10? Is the problem limited just to 4+? I am curious.
