VQ Series Discussion thread

Yeah role them dice, role that start :)

How about this for "learning" from eachother? If we do a full rotation of the team (50 turns?) or maybe 2 full rotations? This would make the Talky less while keeping the learning from eachother up? But a SGOTM kindoff thing will work too...

I am kindoff worried about Emperor tho :( I am a W.A. and total builder. Emperor needs some hard core waring if I am reading right around the forum...

I think the higher you go the more the military plays a huge role. And I think on Emperor you can forget a lot of your beloved wonders. Be nice if we have Catherine and kick some A** with those Cossacks. They are awesome. It's a bit of a balance act as it takes a while to get to the UU and hopefully you are not up against infantry. I guess a lot of people like those Praets but I'd rather run around with horsies or that CK of the Chinese can be very effective too. (with CS slingshot macemen eewwww but wouldn't count on that with emperor)

I would be happy getting any kind of slingshot... and getting any kind of bonus (free GP and such)

I understand that on higher levels you need much more military to compensate for the AI research and production bonus. Near any shot at near any wonder is pointless, unless we have a monopoly on a wonder tech...

Beeing creative would help with the borders, but I think we can really use something usefull... Agressive maybe? and say Organised?

@Maquis: Before you post the rosters, can you post a starting shot? I'd be interested in discussing the start with the whole team before we split off (like a normal GOTM).

Tokagowa? We'll see.

Actually I am planning on a random leader. I suppose if if there's a good enough arguement, we can choose a specific leader; but I like the challenge.
I agree though, we cannot go light on the military. The AI will sniff that out before too long. I'm not expecting many (if any at all!) wonders...

Good idea. I'll post a starting shot tonight. Give us a day or two of discussion.

Talking about the civ we might play ...

Random will sincerly contribute to the difficulty of the game. I've never played Mansa Musa yet, but financial and spiritual might help for science and not loosing any turn on switching civics. Furthermore the skirmisher as UU comes in quite early and is good for defence. I don't know how aggressive you all want to play. But mere survival would be nice for me ... for a start :undecide:.

Dot,

Don't forget it's emperor the AI will smell your blood and gobble you up. Military is very important in the higher levels. Especially offensively. As the saying goes the best defense is offense. Seems to be the case with the higher levels of civ. Science is good too especially if you have a good location start gold/sea resources/floodplains but if not it's hard.

I think as you go up the difficulty level that you appreciate organized more and more. :)

Definitely go random though, I'm curious to see who we have to work with. Although if it is Hatty, I think we should try for another one.

Well ... I've no experience on higher levels. And if you all say there'll be more warring ... this is what I'll expect ;)!

@eektor: I've already learned to appreciate organized more. I definitely agree and it seems very reasonable to me, that it'll become even more important on higher levels. :)

Regards, .

I hope it's Washington he does real well with financial/organized trait. Never played him but he always is a good rival.

Just a note, I haven't found a 10th player yet... so I may have to go advertising.

Anyways, off I go to roll us a start.

And I roll... Hatty. :(

I did save this start, as it may be somewhat interesting...

Our starting city would have marble... that would actually might give us a chance at a couple early wonders...

But... it is not to be. As lord eektor proclaimed, we will re-roll.

And I roll Hatty again! um... is the RNG god trying to test us? Well, I will try one more roll... there is no way I roll the same leader 3 straight times, right?

Right?.... It's like a 1 in 650 chance...

Whew... ok. Nappy will do. Looks like naimlaM got his wish, in part. Aggressive, Industrious. Maybe we would have a shot at a wonder after all.

Overall, cheap Barracks and forges will be helpful.

Oh, and at least we know we do not have to worry about him as an AI.

Anywhere here's where we start...

Looks nice enough... Pork and Wheat to eat... and a little wine to wash it down. Not a Kosher meal... but we know nothing of Judism anyways!

Seriously though... there's a plains hill 1S of the settler, which would be nice to have the defense bonus, along with the extra hammer. It would pull us off the coast, but that should be fine for the capital.

I hope we can get these games kicked off this weekend; as long as we get a 10th player.

Maquis7? :hmm: ... hope you plan on changing that ;)

...not completely sold on 1S, I think I'd move the Warrior 1E first just to be certain. Would the 1S hill have fresh water?

 no comment. #113 and #114 do speak for themselves.

Thank you.

lurker (?) comment

If y'all are still looking for a 10th, I'd love to join. Like some folks here, I've never played Emperor before, but I getting a little too comfortable on Monarch... this seems like a great chance to learn :)

So much for going advertising, Maquis ;).

Hello armstrong! If asked I'd say that the ? is totally needless since the "lurker" is totally dispensable :).

I wouldnt even consider moving... Yes the early extra hamer is nice...

But 1 of the coast, losing a turn to settle and losing 3 valuable hamers in the midterm... I think settling in place will catch up fast... We have two 5 food (or +3) tiles. On size 3 we will have +8 food... once we have the Pasture and the farm in place...
What size is the hapy limit ? 5 in prince... that means 3 in Emperor? Geez...

Lets hope we pop a scout from that hut :)

You're all discussing that ominous extra:hammers: from the hill. AFAIK this extra:hammers: only shows up when the hill is a plainhill, not when it is a grasslandhill. But I'll go and check.

EDIT:
I went. I checked. I can confirm.

The extra:hammers: only appears when the hill you're settling upon has plains as base terrain.
Tundra, desert, ice and grassland all yield the average 2:food:/1:hammers:/1:commerce:.

But the hill 1s is plain hill, no? :checks his eyesight:

Edit But, that being said, no reason to saddle our capital with 4 worthless coast tiles... I'd settle in place. :)
