VQ Series Discussion thread

Hello guys, in view of the fact that both teams have someone who peeked at each other's thread ... I'm thinking would it not be better if we tone down the competitive nature (if even there was one initially) and instead officially encourage players from both sides to "comment and learn" from each other's game. It might be more educational and fun.

Oh nooooo I looked too because Maquis said after 60 turns ok.....

Me likes competition BTW....GO TEAM B GO......

EDIT: What's with all the Canadian cities in team A. Is there a Canuck amongst you? BTW Toronto is about as French as London, England. That's why Bank of Montreal moved their head office there to get away from the Francophone nonsense in Quebec. Here's a cool name from the province of Quebec,
Trois Rivieres. (PS I love Quebec culture but the language laws there are nuts)

The main point of splitting up into two teams wasn't about competition. It was about us seeing two different ways to go about emperor and so we can all learn from the mistakes and the good points of both teams.

I would not encourage people commenting on each other threads yet, because we don't know the location of the other civs and that knowledge will help the other team that has yet to discover them.

Although I think the two games are doing pretty good and going in two different directions, so we could compare a more peaceful start to a more violent start. :)

Dear eektor,

I perfectly agree.
It's really interesting to see how the peaceful and the warring start develop. But I hardly check the b-thread. I might read it once we're nearly done. Since I'm a builder at heart I think I can learn a lot from VQ06b. And I'm definitely glad to be in the A-Team ;). So I don't have to deal with massive early warring :D.

Regards, .

Actually, I would be surprised if Team A go the peaceful route. No one in Team B is especially warmonger-like ... I don't consider myself a warmonger (though I don't discourage pointy-stcik either). Namliam, as i recall, calls himself a builder at heart. Eektor is not especially bloodthirsty. Cosmichail and armstrong is new VQers, so I am not too sure if they prefer war to peace. I think for Team B, war just came naturally ... we would suffocate if we don't strike early.

As for team A, ChrTh we all know is trigger-happy ;), Maquis and bob are both great generals ... I would be really surprise if team A chose the peaceful route, and if it is indeed so (from dot's post, I suspect that is the case), I would be really interested to see how Team A manage to stay out of war and yet still survive. The only viable strategy, as I recall, is to go the TGL or hydra route ... but our map start is not too conducive to pull those two off.

Don't know how I got lumped into the "great general" category... I always have considered myself lacking in the military knowlegde department... :p

But yes, so far we have been going the peaceful route... of course I have no idea how long that may (or may not) last. I think we're barely keeping ourselves in the game right now...

I'm a what now? Great General??? step away from the crack!

I remember playing behind bobrath and you set me up nicely to finish or start a war. So I agree with GreyFox.

As for me I am a builder at heart. As for GreyFox, the only reason why he is pushing for war so much is so he might have the chance to get to do some warring in the SG.

And then leave the messy endresult for a builder to clean up...

I also think that we ain't doing best. But we're still alive. And that's quite a basic for winning :yup:. In Germany we say - "Ein Spiel dauert neunzig Minuten." (A game takes ninety minutes.*) - so there's nothing decided yet. Oh ... hold it ... We won't get the Mids --- That is decided ... unless we conquer the very city :D.

Yeah, I think both teams could benefit from help from each other. I'm not one for trash-talking, especially with our empire being so fragile. ;) Emperor is really, really tough! What amazes me is that it seems like we B-Siders have played everything (mostly) solidly, but the AI's on Emperor are just so strong...

Regarding early warmongering vs. peace, I know the reason I advocated for early war was simply the fact that the SG's I've read where people win on Emperor+ tend to be bloody. I do think that wisdom is showing itself between the two games - it was costly, but we've scraped together 7 cities now in 350 AD. On the other hand, all that military really slowed us down research-wise. If we luck out and can get a lot of techs with Alphabet we'll be better off, otherwise...

I think the B-Side position right now is pretty up in the air - we're fighting Keshiks without Hunting (:crazyeye:! ) and if we can't get some techs for Alphabet+peace with Khan we're in serious trouble... still, I think there's an awful lot of reason for hope. :goodjob:

I'm gone for three days and this thread (and the emperor games) turns into a lovefest? :vomit:

;)

And I am NOT trigger happy. I'm just not trigger shy. As my extensive diplo win experience demonstrates, I'm more than happy to trade the sword for the plowshare. It's only when the variant indicates "conquest only" that I have to say, Why Put Off Until Next Turn What You Can Conquer This Turn? :D

I will dare you to play a >=Noble, >=Standard size game of CIV in 90 minutes Dot :)
:nope: I won't do this. I just can't see any fun in this. That would be too much of a rush for me. Even on noble I'd at least spend a day on it. And if I don't get the Mids or the Oracle or the Lib (or all three of them :smug:) I am very close to considering the game as lost.
