now i usually (never actually) don't post preview threads of stuff i have in the pipeline but i thought i'd share this one on the C&C forum.

some may say: oh - another WW1 scenario...ho hum.

however, i don't care ;) i've always wanted to assemble one and now's the time i suppose. some may already know that i've been working for quite a while on a revision for my Age of Imperialism mod (non-stop really since about Nov '05). this is nearly finished i reckon. in the meantime though, i had an idea to 'piggy-back' off of the AoI revison and create a European battlefield that would be exclusive to WW1. you see, the AoI revision will now cover the years 1895 through 1918. accordingly, all of the WW1 hardware, etc is now included within the AoI folders and this made the task of creating a WW1 mod a much, much easier task. iow, the WW1 Deluxe mod will use the AoI folders via the 'Scenario Search Path' feature.

yes, there are other WW1 mods out there. Sarevok's and Rocoteh's The Great War scenario is likely the front runner in this regard. i wanted to take it a step further though by introducing a little more depth into the equation and Rocoteh has kindly allowed for me to use the exact map from that very good mod (Sarevok is no longer active here i take it). as a result, i'm fortunate to have an excellent map in place. check it out:

all Euro civs (and Asian where applicable) will be represented. the list is as follows:
Italy
Rumania
Russia
Sweden
Persia
Belgium
British Empire
Montenegro
Bulgaria
Portugal
Austria-Hungary
Norway
Greece
Germany
Switzerland
Denamrk
France
Arabia
Spain
Ottoman Empire
Albania
Holland
Serbia

all of the above will be 'playable' although some of the smaller civs will definitely be a challenge.

the tech tree will be the final era of AoI. below is a 'thrown together' image of what it's going to look like...

here's some additional info i posted not too long ago about this in the AoI thread:
i am going to open a new thread for this one when it's ready so it's not confused w/ AoI at all. this one is going to be geared more towards warfare (duh) whereas AoI isn't necessarily a war mongering scenario (although it can be but the mechanics of the scenario are built around getting the flag units back home). this WW1 scenario won't have the flag units b/c there's only a portion of the colonies shown on the map (n africa really).

i hope to do some pre-lim testing on the World War One Deluxe once the testing for AoI begins. i've gotten a lot done w/ it over the last few days; namely, diversifying the unit lines (the infantry units in particular).

some info:
- it'll run off of the AoI folders
- every civ will have at least 2 generations of infantry units (the smallish or incosequential civs of WW1 will have a 1914 infantry and a 1916 one)
- the larger and more proseprous civs like Great Britain, France, and Germany will have 5 (one for each year of the war)
- the US will not be a civ. instead, they will be lupmed in w/ the french as wonders that autoproduce their units. they don't even appear on the map.
- the scenario will last around 230 turns and VP locations will play a pivotal role in reaching a win
- the map is actually the same exact size (180x180) as the AoI map
- roughly speaking, the city imp's from AoI will be in effect (w/ a several period additions)
- there will be locked alliances in accordance w/ the historical alliances of WW1
- trade, as usual, will be disabled

i hope to post info in this thread as i get to it. the AoI testing is till going on and probably will be for the forseeable future; although i've been chipping away w/ this WW1 hog...

and the last one for today...an image of the french fleet near Brest. OoB for the french Navy is complete actually. i still need to finish the RN CAs, CLs, TBs & DDs, and SSs.

comments are always welcomed!

Wow that is looking good el justo and from what I heard the most prolific unit creator is going to work on some WWI units soon.

hehehehehe

thanks guys.

i figure that as time permits, i'll try and fill this thread with screenies, info, and things of that sort.

today i have snapped some shots of the German foot units for the scenario. note that Germany is one of the civs that is able to build a slightly better infantry after they research the 'year' techs (1915, 1916, 1917, 1918). the Germans also have a few autoproduced units from flavor wonders. considering that there's 230-some turns altogether, it's reasonable to assume that each 'year' infantry will be put to considerable use. plus, they each upgrade to one another.

German Infantry - 1914

German Infantry - 1915

MG 08 Btln - Germany can also build the MG 08/15 & the MG 08/18 although all 3 share the same gfx. same goes for the '14 & '15 infantry and the '16-'18.

Flamenwerfer Btln

German Infantry - 1916

German Infantry - 1917

German Infantry - 1918

dont be too hasty. I have a lot of aircraft, zeps, tanks and artillery from that era left to do. NOT NEARLY as much as soe, but more than is available right now

This looks hot!

I hope it won't sound as annoying post , but when it comes out ?
It looks amazing ! and I hope the loading time will be the same as it is in TCW

Good call, I was wondering about that.

It looks like the German Infantry from 1916 to 1918 have striped socks on that girls wear.

Great job!

thanks everyone and my apologies to any Belgians out there. that adjective is a hold-over from the AoI biq.

i'll try and get some more stuff together this afternoon.

last night i was able to pre-place all of the RN ships...and oh brother...is that tedious.

now, almost all of the RN vessels found their way onto the map. however, once i got down to the CAs and the older PCs, i left out a whole bunch of them. most of these ships though were restricted to harbour-type services and were by no means 'front line' sea vessels. as such, of the dozen+ classes of cruisers (pre-battlecruiser classes for the most part), roughly 2 or 3 of the classes had been placed.

all capital ships though have been placed. this means lots and lots of BBs...all of them actually.

DDs were also placed. however, i left some classes out; mainly the older classes from the early 20th century.

even TBs are on the map. most are in the Med though near Malta and Gibraltar.

there's a few CLs and a handful of SSs, too.

i've now begun pre-placing the German sea units. i got through the first 2 BB classes last night before calling it quits. it makes me bleery-eyed after a while :p

anyhow - the net result of all of these pre-placed units is going to be a massive naval battle at some point (civ3's Jutland?). it will be interesting to see how this'll play out...
