Help! I'm a war addict. I need to go war in every single game I play. When I win by building a spaceship, I don't feel accomplished at all (not talking about cultural victory or diplomatic). I want to conquer the world and only that!

Am I the only one with this bad addiction?

Well, I've won many peaceful victories, but most of my games I just get the urge to go to war and destroy a civilization, even though I do not need to do so at all in order to win. :D

The one game I was going for culture victory as Japan, and yet for some reason I decided to wipe out the other 4 civilizations on my continent! I thought that I might go for a Conquest victory then, but the other continent had the gigantic Sumerian empire (I guess he wiped out the other civ that was on his continent). I would have never been able to sustain invading him.

Infact, he invaded me, and HIS FIRST, HUGE stack of ships and units went straight to my capital, and he captured it, and RAZED it and then with his continuing assault he captured about half of my cities, and then he captured (and RAZED) my SECOND culture city! And even that wasn't enough, I still couldn't bribe him for peace and he still kept attacking!

By the time his onslaught was over I had about 4 cities left, my military was decimated and I had lost two of my big 3 culture cities to razing...also, an interesting fact is at that point all of the holy cities were gone, the Buddhist, Hindu, Judaism, Christian, Islam were razed by me, and my Confucian (capital) and Taoism (some minor city) holy cities were razed by Gilgamesh...Gilgamesh had no religion at all in any of his cities, since all 7 of them were founded over on the other continent :O

Anyway, I ended up winning a Space Race victory with a really low score and about 7 turns away from the end of the game.

If I wouldn't have gone to war all of those times I could have won in like 1905 with a very high scored Culture victory. :(

P.S. I think the game was glitched...Gilgamesh razed every single city of mine he captured....even though he was probably could have gotten a Domination win if he would have kept them...he just never settled on my continent, even though most of it was destroyed.

I see the AI raze cities a lot more when they have to mount an intercontinental expeditionary force to take them. Closer to home, they often keep the cities they capture, but not overseas.

I'm right there with you, I'm a converted buildaholic who has crossed the line and now walks in the realm of madness. Now I war, constantly. To me it feels like everytime I'm not at war with the AI they are plotting some nasty move, or working on stealing my wonders that I really don't care about building anymore. I don't think I build a single early or mid game wonder, the late ones I do simply because they are so cheap. 5 turns to get 1+ happy in every city? yes please!

Units, units, units! I need more units!
I've gone from playing with Elizabeth to working on a crash and burn pillage strategy with the mongols where I simply raze and loot everything I can access. Constant war is almost a must. I haven't quite got the timing yet, I think I need a more aimed researched and CoL earlier to keep my economy afloat. Kinda fun to be behind for once, but with enough land it's only a question of when you catch up.

How can I return to actually not warring during some periods?

Warmongers they call us.

i tried playing on a huge 18civ map, just to get out of duel maps for a while.

All is fine until i start getting bored or somebody says the wrong thing and annoys me, i try to play nice, open borders, religion spreads, resouce trade, tech trade here and there, then some silly arabian or spaniard think that its a great idea to settle a city 2 tiles away from my cultural borders........I snap!

Chop, Chop, Whip, Whip, March, Crush the first civ to dust, half raze the second closest to me, mop with workers and chariots, then heal up and go kill poor roosevelt on the far right. finish him and churn his cities for money to sustain a larger army addition to my already theocracy/vassalage/ and recent battle upgraded legions.

Even Ghandi is not safe, he saw me coming i had already declared war 12 turns ago, all six of his cities razed tothe ground, except the capital, i wanted the Holy city Throphies, i tried playing nice but they kept pushing me.

Im gonna try again a large map for a nice tech or culture win, Isabella and Ragnar better not be there.

I just won my first conquest victory.

It was kinda heavily in my favor.

The settings were:

Normal Sized Map
Archipelago Map
Cold Climate
High Sea Level
Tiny Islands
No Barbarians
One City Challenge

And I was playing as Willem Van Oranje of the Dutch.

It was great though, I wiped out everyone! And also destroyed many wonders! AND many religions!

The map is lonely now though...there's just my units going around and razing all of the improvements and my one and only city, Amsterdam, up at the north and center of the map. Just a cold, barren sea with a handful of islands. :( :D

How come you didn't present us with the most interesting setting: the level of difficulty? :s

You know, the strategy guides so generously created by the CIV4 geniuses floating around all say we should only war when we have reason to...

So I destroyed:
- Mansa because he had a tech lead
- Frederick because he didn't
- Justinian because he's next to me
- Issy because I wanted the holy city and
- Shaka because he's crazy.

I like being able apply what i've leant :D

I like the way you write it!

Hello my name is Rabid and I'm a war monger. It wasn't bad at first, I whored wonders, and life was good. But I kept losing through sneak attacks, and being milked for techs. One time I snapped and when I came to I was the only civ left. Now each game I play I need more and more blood to satisfy my hunger. Even when I play with a peaceful economy I'll randomly kill an enemy.

Hi, I'm root, and I'm a war addict...

In fact, the only mod I use is a custom combination which gives me impossibly war-like tendencies... All my melee units get Combat 2 and March... my culture and great people are reduced 75% apiece... must have war...

It's not my fault... I swear! I can stop anytime I want to... but first I have to wipe out Shaka. I mean come on, can I really be safe with him around?! Too bad you just can't inject CIV...

Hi, I'm Dero Zero and I have the same problem. I actually purposely get AIs mad at me, so I can start war. This is bad when there is over 5 AIs in the map, and I often loose when I'm at war with everybody. SOMEBODY HELP ME!
