Well, I've won many peaceful victories, but most of my games I just get the urge to go to war and destroy a civilization, even though I do not need to do so at all in order to win.
The one game I was going for culture victory as Japan, and yet for some reason I decided to wipe out the other 4 civilizations on my continent! I thought that I might go for a Conquest victory then, but the other continent had the gigantic Sumerian empire (I guess he wiped out the other civ that was on his continent). I would have never been able to sustain invading him.
Infact, he invaded me, and HIS FIRST, HUGE stack of ships and units went straight to my capital, and he captured it, and RAZED it and then with his continuing assault he captured about half of my cities, and then he captured (and RAZED) my SECOND culture city! And even that wasn't enough, I still couldn't bribe him for peace and he still kept attacking!
By the time his onslaught was over I had about 4 cities left, my military was decimated and I had lost two of my big 3 culture cities to razing...also, an interesting fact is at that point all of the holy cities were gone, the Buddhist, Hindu, Judaism, Christian, Islam were razed by me, and my Confucian (capital) and Taoism (some minor city) holy cities were razed by Gilgamesh...Gilgamesh had no religion at all in any of his cities, since all 7 of them were founded over on the other continent :O
Anyway, I ended up winning a Space Race victory with a really low score and about 7 turns away from the end of the game.
If I wouldn't have gone to war all of those times I could have won in like 1905 with a very high scored Culture victory.
P.S. I think the game was glitched...Gilgamesh razed
every single city of mine he captured....even though he was probably could have gotten a Domination win if he would have kept them...he just never settled on my continent, even though most of it was destroyed.
