Well, it'll be neat to see guns in our shop again. Maybe the attempts to unionise Wal-Mart have intensified so the Waltons are just trying to intimidate the proletariat? :mischief:

Seriously, it's all up to them as it's their company, so, good on them. :)

Why would Wal-Mart want to "stick it to the liberals" by re-introducing guns, however? :mischief: I know Wal-Mart is often the subject of many a liberal critique(to the point strong conservatives like my mother defend them ad nauseum) but if they hated liberals, why remove the guns in the first place?

I think it, quite honestly, is 100% based on sales and not any political message.

Not since Michael Moore got them to stop. And they don't sell food in the K-Marts around here either...

Really? Well I haven't really been in there since the local one was closed when they had financial trouble a few years back. So I don't recall the changes. Still most of the sporting good stores have plenty of guns.

Pretty much. They stock guns but they really seem to go out of their way to keep people from buying them so it's no wonder their sells suffer.

They're selection sucks at most stores. No handguns, no AR-15s, no AKs. Yawn. Politically correct "Ranch" Mini-14s. They got some good .22s though.

Even if you want to buy or look at something then the guy with the cabinet keys is NEVER around. If they are around they're probably too busy talking to the typical loitering orange camouflaged gun buddy to help real customers.

Some of them won't sell ammo after dark for some reason.

The worst thing is if you do buy a gun the FFL guy escorts you to your car.

Their prices are low so I guess that's enough to keep the sporting goods section alive regardless of horrible service.

Just to clear up a few things said earlier in the thread:

Almost all new Chinese guns except for a few types of shotguns are banned from import to the US for a variety of reasons. The ATF is *very* good at meeting ships at the dock when they try it anyway.

A handgun can be very effective on Alaskan wildlife. Any service caliber is plenty for wolves, and some are specifically designed for bear defense.

Target shooting is fun and can be a competitive sport. There are many reasons to own a gun other than killing people.

The national background check required for all retail firearm purchases isn't available from 1AM to 8AM EST, so you can't walk out with a stack of guns in the middle of the night.

The nice thing about Walmart sellings guns country-wide again is volume. They used to have a custom version of the Ruger 10/22(one of the most popular rifles in the US) that had a very good feature set for the price. They also have the cheapest ammo in my city.

I have serious doubts that our military will ever be turned against ordinary citizens, and even more doubt that the rank and file soldier would follow those orders. Nice features of a volunteer force under civilian control.

I have no idea if the local Wal-Marts ever stopped selling them. The last time I went into the sporting goods section was early high school when I was still acquiring camping equipment.

I'm pro-gun rights but anti-Walmart so I'm actually against this. They will just drive smaller gun stores out of business like they do with other small businesses they compete with. Then they will start selling lower quality generic crap once they gain a big enough market share.

Nothing makes me LOL more than the imagery of a pack of untrained, ill-disciplined, roid-raging legend-in-their-own-lunchtime types who think that buying a gun from Walmart they're contributing to a well-regulated militia in their state, when I doubt they could effectively contribute to a well-regulated orgy in Orchard Towers.

It's a store that helps give even poor Americans a higher standard of living than continental Europeans.

No, and nor does any country.

    Indirectly.

Can we get off the tired and hopelessly inaccurate US supremacy gig please? It's completely the wrong thread for that.

Right, this thread is for the tired and hopelessly inaccurate mockery of rural gun ownership. Let's keep these things properly organized.

No, it magically reduces the population density to a fraction of most of Europe, makes property far cheaper so most middle class can live in overly large homes, pays homage to the notion that hicks with disposable income are no longer hicks, and employs the elderly and handicapped in make-work jobs.

I don't think any thread is immune to that - certainly not one about Walmart and guns.
