As far as I heard, Pit Boss feature never properly worked or was a great hassle to make it work. GMR is not Pit Boss, but can be used instead (not sure if a GMR game would be lacking anything a Pit Boss game has).
GMR is a very good alternative for people who
a) want to play MP but can not dedicate uninterrupted play time for several hours and/or
b) have unstable/slow connections that will make them get kicked from online MP games and/or
c) do not like the clickfest of the simultaneous turns that dominates the online MP
I recommend GMR wholeheartedly.
