As you can clearly see my question in the title hehe, I've been pondering this entire Sunday a fantasy modification of my own imagination for Civilization, yet, I'm not sure if its "worth" the efforts to produce it and which Civilization installation to proceed with.

I feel "Civilization 4" is pretty much the universal Civ in the series thus far and everyone plays it regardless of whether they like Civilization 5 or not. Because I would love and prefer to have an audience that is large.

But I prefer "Civilization 5" because obviously it has much superior graphics and I honestly like the hexagon system simply due to removing the SOD's which I bitterly despised in my lengths of play.

Don't misinterpret me, I'm well aware its going to take a bit of learning and energy to apply my ideas to the game, but my very first "mod" was for Shogun 2 Total War, and I ran away from it after becoming exhausted with frustration with the games obscure and horrid programming system. It bothers me, since I would rather apply my fantasy mod to Total War since its more about "war" and strictly belonging in one era then anything else, yet, I also love civilization-building from meager portions to lavish resources.

So could anyone help me with advice concerning my dilemma? And any chance of changing your forum screen name? "Yaguer - Niome", I don't know what the HELL I was thinking several years ago...

The answer to the mod question is "neither".
Civ4 already has a very big and very good fantasy mod (Fall from Heaven 2), at least one other is in the works, and I'm not sure if you really want to compete with that.
In Civ5 there are not many assets available. There are different melee and knights units in the download database, and IIRC also one dragon, but else not much, and AFAIK there's also at least one fantasy mod in the making. You'd need some unit creation skills to create something more distinct.

Drop an admin a PM with a name change request and your desired new name. But attention, might take quite some time.

I actually played and enjoyed Fall from Heaven, not aware of the other one though. The guy who made it joined Stardock as Project Lead for Elemental: Fallen Enchantress. Cool beans.

Honestly I wasn't expecting "neither", I'd figure "one more mod" would still be better than nothing. I have no reason whatsoever to compete, if I did, I wouldn't be having any fun and I bet I can say the same for the rest of the mods here. Though I guess Civ-5 is the appropriate avenue.

And thanks for replying mate, I gotta change this name, lol...

Oh well, more is sure better. But it also needs to be distinct. If you say "fantasy" without anything else, then I imagine dwarves, elves, orcs, etc., and that would probably be too similar to FfH2. And then you'd be right, wouldn't be fun.
If you can make it distinct, then go ahead :).

For Civ5, you should definitely first check what resources there are and if it's feasible at all. Like I said, there might be enough stuff to put something preliminary together, but I'm not sure if you can make at the moment a fully fleshed out fantasy mod :dunno:.
