... are absolutely fantastic units !

They don't require Iron or Horses!

I have been led to beleive that spearmen/pikemen have an attack bonus against mounted units? I don't think such a bonus exsists against War Elephants since they don't use horses. I build 9, took out 1 large civ on marlas worl map, lost no units so went on and destroyed another!

And if you want even a SEMBLANCE of realism and historical accuracy with War Elephants Edit their defense value down to '2' or even '1'. They were miserable on defense. Sid's values are irrational.

Fun and balance win out over historical accuracy. Besides, the elephants are meant to represent a replacement unit for a knight and therefore must have similiar stats. Knights were used quite a bit later than elephants were during wartime, leaving a pretty long time for those mahouts to learn how to control their elephants right.

Though i suppose the problem was really the injured elephants trampling as many friendly troops as enemy troops, rather than poor driving.
