[RD] War in Gaza News: Pas de Deux

I think the real goal may be escalation to prolong and entrench the conflict, the hope being that it will bolster the regime's hold on power, similar to how the Iraq War solidified Baby Bush's hold on the Presidency by bogging down US politics in notions of "victory" and supporting the wartime President. Couple that with the fact that in the US, during the Iraq War, there was at least a non-insignificant anti-war pushback going on by the time the election came around, whereas it appears that this is far less so the case in Israel right now.
Then how could it be said that Netanyahu is strengthening his hold on anything, really?
Seems clear to me that your average Israeli wants this fighting to go on, without any agency having to be wrestled away from them to begin with, and thus approve of his actions.

I can feel testosterone pulsing through my bloodstream. I'm enraged.

Israel shouldn't wait, they should take out Iran's government now before this escalates out of control. Go further than just taking out their oil refineries, destroy their bases, their power plants, their nuclear facilities, factories, launchpads, administrative buildings, civic buildings, residences of top officials, and bunkers.
The reason we're here is because Israel escalated out of control, multiple times, culminating in hundreds of casualties in Lebanon (and the West Bank) - nothing to do with and nowhere near the hostages they're meant to be focusing on in Gaza.

Something was always going to happen in response, just as Israel was always going to respond to October 7th last year.

While a great war won't end all wars, it can at least end most sides currently going for war. So in that respect, it may be good (for those not involved/ruined in it).

US actively defends Israel but supplies the bombs to kill tens of thousands in Gaza.

No. You are just someone feeding on propaganda. Of a decaying empire, no less. Bad situation.

The israelis want to steal Lebannon's land, as they stole Palestine's. They are very open about that. Hezbollah they hate because it has been an effective resistance against that plan.

The multiple provocations and escalation by Israel's government recently seem designed to draw the US into a big regional war. That is not a given due to the current weakness of the US military. They simply cannot sustain a big Middle East war even if they wanted to. Hence they don't, the military officers who can count stocks and check capabilities doesn't. What the politica leaderhorsehocky, or its abcense, will do is another matter.
Some countries are quite schizophrenic. They spent money in Hamas and Hezbollah-controlled territories and these investments are gone.
I read in propaganda that this is not Hezbollah land. They were supposed to be disarmed and not to be there according some peace agreement in 2006. Instead of it they bomb Israel.
I think its worthy to challenge Hezbollah and Hamas but I fully agree that Israel should not do it alone. (ideally Israel should be not involved at all)

Who hurt you? And why do I get the distinct impression of you posting like this?

A top US security official says America will make sure Iran faces 'severe consequences' for escalating its conflict with Israel

The US has promised "severe consequences" for Iran after it launched a massive ballistic missile strike on Israel on Tuesday.

The Israel Defense Forces said that Iran fired 180 missiles at Israel in what Iran called a retaliatory attack for the recent assassinations of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders.

"This is a significant escalation by Iran, a significant event," US national security advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters in a White House press conference on Tuesday.

"We have made clear that there will be consequences, severe consequences for this attack, and we will work with Israel to make that the case," Sullivan added.

Announcing the attack, the Israel Defense Forces said on Telegram on Tuesday that "a short while ago, missiles were launched from Iran towards the State of Israel."

In an X post, it said that "all Israeli civilians are in bomb shelters as rockets from Iran are fired at Israel."

After the attack, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement: "Iran made a big mistake tonight — and it will pay for it."

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Tuesday night that the US would help defend Israel and called the strike an "outrageous act of aggression."

Sullivan echoed the words of another senior White House official, who told Business Insider before the attack that the US had seen "indications" of an attack against Israel.

"We are actively supporting defensive preparations to defend Israel against this attack," the anonymous official told BI. "A direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran."
During the attack, US Navy warships fired interceptors at Iranian missiles.

Sullivan told reporters at the briefing that US naval destroyers "joined Israeli air-defense units in firing interceptors to shoot down inbound missiles."

"We do not know of any damage to aircraft or strategic military assets in Israel," he added, saying the attack "appears to have been defeated" and was "ineffective."

There were no reports of injuries from the attack in Israel, but one Palestinian laborer was killed by falling shrapnel in the Israel-occupied West Bank, per The New York Times.

Iran said that the missile attack was a retaliation against Israel's recent killings of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, according to the Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with the Iranian Armed Forces.

In July, Israel assassinated one of Hamas's top leaders, Ismail Haniyeh, while he was in Tehran. And on Friday, Israel killed Hezbollah's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike near Beirut.

During trading on Tuesday, US crude oil prices surged more than 5%.

An increase in tensions between Israel and Iran could drive oil prices higher, Ramanan Krishnamoorti, a professor of petroleum engineering at the University of Houston, told ABC News.

"Clearly this will have a huge impact on gas prices," Krishnamoorti told ABC News. "There's no doubt about that."
Apparently Iran's ballistic missile attack was as effective as a toddler's tantrum[pissed], kudos for US/Israel defence:clap:.

bs on defence , good on accuracy . Iran doesn't want an American invasion , also can't take that much Israeli provocation . They have managed to land a couple of missiles within 500 meters (?) of Mossad headquarters . That will not be the end of it , true , and they will have to launch for real but hey , this is still far more maturity than you see from many others , starting with Israel znd America .

Israel bombed Russia's Hmeimim airbase an hour after the arrival of an Iranian plane belonging to "Qeshm" Airlines.

The Israeli strike did not target the runways or towers at Hmeimim Airbase and Latakia's civilian airport.

The bombing targeted other military sites in Latakia province simultaneously with hitting the warehouse inside Hmeimim Airbase.
:hatsoff:

I wouldn't say it's a good idea to view Israel as being "on your side", when it is massacring people left and right.

Is this just sarcastic snarling, or would you like to make a specific claim that Israel has not killed 40,000 (~2%) of Gaza's population?

I'll go ahead and make that claim: given conditions in the strip and the process for how the Ministry of Health produces those numbers, the true number of dead in Gaza is almost certainly far, far higher than 42,000.

like , ı don't know , where is the joy ? Bombing the Syrian airbase and it was bombed multiple times by drones at the days CIA would still lend a hand to quadcopter operations of El Kaide offshoots and whatever . Should have been the end of Israeli-Russian alliance thing , no ?

but yeah , even more craters at the targeted airbase thing and Israel declared Guterres a persona non grata because apparently he didn't criticize Iran . And for those who might not be following , Israeli PR now might want you to believe this was a surprise attack . Like America informed 7 days before hand as usual orwhatever and the Iranian mission in the UN always declaring the end of the attacks as a routine . Do Israelis do anything like this , like ever ?
