Assassinated Hamas Leader Had UN Employee ID on Body at Time of Death

Top Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar had an UN employee ID on him at the time of his assassination at the hands of Israeli forces in a chance encounter.

Photos of Yahya Sinwar's personal belongings were shared to X by Amit Segal, a journalist for Israel's Channel 12 News. One of these items was identified by Segal as an UNRWA teacher ID.

Other items found with Sinwar included money, an AK-47, a lighter and Mentos candy.

The assassination of Sinwar was confirmed by Israeli and U.S. officials Thursday after soldiers reportedly ran into the Hamas leader by chance. Troops had instructed a tank to fire on a building, which the 450th infantry battalion confirmed fatally injured Sinwar.

"This is the beginning of the day after Hamas," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video message. "Evil has suffered a heavy blow, but the task before us is not yet complete."

President Joe Biden said in a statement, "This is a good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world." He added that he planned to speak with Netanyahu on further plans for retrieving the hostages.
Biden added, "There is now the opportunity for a 'day after' in Gaza without Hamas in power, and for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to achieving all of those goals. That obstacle no longer exists. But much work remains before us."

The Hamas leader rose to power as a political and military figure in July after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.

Vice President Kamala Harris said at a press conference that Sinwar was "the mastermind of Oct. 7," and praised Israeli soldiers for their efforts.

"Justice has been served, and the United States, Israel and the entire world are better off as a result. Sinwar was responsible for the killing of thousands of innocent people, including the victims of Oct. 7 and hostages killed in Gaza. He had American blood on his hands. Today, I can only hope that the families of the victims of Hamas feel a sense and measure of relief," Harris told reporters.

Israelis urge Netanyahu to push for hostage deal

After Israel announced the death of Yahya Sinwar yesterday, families of the remaining 101 hostages that were taken by Hamas and are still in Gaza gathered in Tel Aviv.

It's where they've been demonstrating for the past year, urging the Israeli government to launch new negotiations to get their relatives home.

Einav Zangauker - whose son Matan Zangauker was taken hostage - was there, urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "don't bury the hostages".

"Go out now to themediators and to the public and lay out a new Israeli initiative," she says.

"For my Matan and the rest of the hostages in the tunnels, time has run out. You have the victory pictures. Now bring a deal!"

"If Netanyahu doesn't use this moment and doesn't get up now to lay out a new Israeli initiative - even at the expense of ending the war - it means he has decided to abandon the hostages in an effort to prolong the war and fortify his rulership.

"We will not give up until everyone returns."

Rest easy Sinwar

And Israelis wonder why Palestinians hate them. Add on the Israeli settlers who bulldoze Palestinian towns in the West Bank and establish their own towns there.
Illegally according to everyone but nothing happens about it.
Yes, this is why there are Hamas, or any other, attacks on Israel. They've been doing it since 1948.
Apparently 'God told them to'...

I just want to point out that armed European Zionist settlers have been carrying out acts of organized violence against civilians in Palestine since the 1890s if not earlier. This did not begin in 1948.

Going that far back why not 7th century? Arabs aren't exactly innocent in the Imperialism game.

Hamas most certainly has not. They only appeared after the First Intifada failed – like, the time Israel really should have sat down a brokered an actual political deal for a Palestinians state, when it was still possible. And Israel supported Hamas back then ("the honorable men of the mosque" as it were) – in order to fracture the unity of the Palestinian side further.

I didn't mean Hamas since 1948.

That's a false equivalence between Arab and Palestinian...
Culturally there is little difference between them.

When you get down to it, these talks inevitably lead to the conclusion that the Levant basically belongs to the Arabs and anyone is just wrong for encroaching there, at least without assimilating.
It's the same track criticizing European settlement of the Americas, repeated.
Could you elaborate on this? I could have sworn Egypt relinquished all claim to territory beyond the Sinai when they made peace with Israel.
You could be right; I don't know, myself.
I'm just a little flustered (and have been) that Egypt does nothing to help neighboring Palestinians when they could. They claim taking them in would "ruin" whatever chances Palestinians have for a free state, but what about those who at the moment do not want that and just want out...? Why play politics with them...?

Because nobody wants the Palestinians.
