War in Venezuela: The US Invasion

RC-135 River Joint was spotted off the coast of Venezuela in https://www.flightradar24.com/ some hours ago. That is the kind of plane the US would deploy if it had real intentions of attacking Venezuela in the next days since it is used to gather live info about Venezuela air defenses, frequencies configurations, etc.

Still the fact it had the transponder on so Venezuelans can see it may mean it is only for intimidation. We will see soon.

The pilot may have concluded that the biggest risk is being shot down by his own side.

Arg, how is this legal without a declaration of war?

To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

7A.M. toilet tweets become serious with a carrier strike group nearby.

Electronic warfare power levels have steadily been building since late October l.

There are also rumors of a coup being stirred up against Mexico a few weeks ago by somebody. :hmm:

‘Kill Everybody’: Hegseth Reportedly Ordered SEAL Team 6 to Leave No Survivors After Caribbean Boat Strike

I wonder why they were so upset about the idea that soldiers are responsable if they follow illegal orders?

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly ordered SEAL Team 6 to kill every individual aboard a suspected drug-trafficking boat.

In a Friday report from The Washington Post, sources described the scene and aftermath of the Trump administration’s first Caribbean airstrike in September.

Those with knowledge of the inner workings of the operation claimed Hegseth explicitly told the SEAL Team to leave no survivors. The Washington Post report continued:

Not long after the two survivors came into view, the Special Operations commander overseeing the attack reportedly ordered a second strike. The two men, sources said, were “blown apart in the water.”

As noted in the report, Trump posted a short video of the strike shortly after. The video notably excluded the follow-up strike. That, according to one source, could have dramatically changed public opinion. The report continued:
It's now being spun that Hegseth didn't say it. I'm of two minds on this:
- to begin with, I find it a little unlikely that Hegseth would be issuing such a specific directive in that circumstance i.e. "kill them", as if some field commander really needed to be told how to blow up a boat. Also for someone being accused of something pretty heinous, he has seemed fairly blasé about the whole thing which would be wildly out of character for him.
- whoever issued the order should be held criminally accountable for what they did, because it'd be unacceptable under any circumstances anyway. And in a more just world, Hegseth would be fired regardless.

We don't give orders like "kill them" we say stuff like "kinetic action authorized to neutralize the target"

It is of the opinion of the leadership of this department that a private vessel off the coast of Venezuela is so positioning itself in such a way so as to present, although evaluated at the moment to be not imminent, a potential security, economic, social, political, or cultural threat to the United States or other relevant powers with regard to what is believed to be its freight and the sub-legal mechanisms by which it is under delivery. Therefore, this department authorizes the use of kinetic munitions to disable, destroy, and make the boat inoperable and its contents unsalvageable.

I doubt it is legal, and I'm certain Trump doesn't care.
As far as I can find the last formal declaration of war between two recognized states was from Iraq to Iran in 1980. The U.S. nor any NATO ally to my knowledge has done so since World War II.

Regarding the question of, does the president have the legal authority to order military action? Yes, he does, within the confines of the constitution and the war powers act.

Does the president have the power to use the military against drug cartels? Probably. I don’t think it’s been challenged in court yet, but the tendency of the judiciary is to defer to executive authority in military matters insofar as I believe precedent has either been, or in some cases, not been established.

One such use perhaps illustrative of the point is the killing of Abdul al-Awlaki, a 16-year-old U.S. citizen whose father (Anwar) was an al-Qaeda propagandist and brought his son with him. The official White House response effectively amounted to “sucks to be that kid.” That was my response too, but hey, as far as legal limits on presidential power goes with the military, our leaning is toward not tying his hands.

edit: the above case was under the Obama administration

isn't Hegseth supposed to be a veteran with drinking problems and not an exactly brilliant record or whatever ? He would REALLY order the Military to do things .

I can't think of any justification for sudden execution on the high seas.

Maybe if they were pirates, but I didn't hear of any piracy.
Maybe self-defense, but I don't think the speed boat fired upon our missile destroyers.
Maybe if we were at war with Venezuela, but we are not.
Since when justification (or accountability) is ever the concern for the US when it releases its hounds, it can be under any kind of reasons and assumptions, they can just made it up over in a morning over a coffee and doughnuts, something like Drugs of Mass Destruction (DMD), Threat of Our Freedom (TOF).

They do it because they can.

We've reached the point where the war on drugs is now a literal war. But MAGA still claim Trump is "anti-war". :lmao:

Imagine when Trump invades and instead of fentanyl it's mostly coke. Another war over fake WMDs.

That I was thinking. Venezuela has nothing to do with that crappy fentanyl afaik, they have the good stuff.
