Now that you mention it I have a better, and more logical way of thinking:

The bomb drops, exploding, and the methane burns, frying the people. Then the remnants of the Methane slowly rise, but it takes about an hour for this to happen, so it suffocates the Earthlings.

If they are in fireproof buildings, so? Then they will be fine from suffocation, because the fire didn't burn away their oxygen supply.

If the bomb hits and the area isn't incinerated, than the people will be suffocated.

It's just that I like the burning/reacting-hydrogen-with-oxygen idea better.
